Folks, I’m new to the Forum. I’ve got months with the Slate 750 and Beryl 1300, in dozens of hotels. I’ve learned quite a bit on my own. Yet, it still is a painful process to set up in each new hotel (with new unknown security rules).

Is there a set of FAQs or “how to” guides for working your way around hotel captive portals, etc.?

If not, is there an interest in creating one? Would a thread here be a good place for such a guide?

Thanks, I did read the documentation, entirely, and I have read and used the info on the captive portal link you sent. It’s a good place to start, but it doesn’t usually get you completely functional. MAC clone and Static routes may need to be done also – in fact nearly always.

Captive Portal Strategies

I’ve had problems with captive portals, particularly with my Chromebooks (looking at you Delta), and I see others have had, so I thought I would put down a few notes in case it would be helpful. Some captive portals operate through a form of DNS poisoning. When you make a connection to a wifi router, you get an IP and a DNS server. Mobile devices, most modern OSs and browsers will immediately run a captive portal detection test by issuing a DNS request through port 80 for some identified serve…
