MT1300 Slow and drops connection

I just received this ~week ago, flashed the fw to the latest and installed LuCI. The setup out of the box starts out pretty fast, but steadily slows and drops internet connection. My endpoint to router (wifi 2.4Ghz) remains stable. Also the LED routinely cycles from white/solid to white/slow blink and sometimes its blue/slow blink.

I’ve tried different internet connections too: same behavior
RJ45 WAN port
WiFi repeater
USB Tether

For the Tether, I’m using Visible on an iPhone X Plus. After adding the TTL entry for the mangle table, I’ve notice the chain entries for it under firewall status “grow” meaning it starts with a single entry and after some time there’s more rows added, with everything the same except the data/packet column… but they will all increment as you watch.

Finally I noticed in the syslog there’s continued entries for “Detect rtchange event” followed by a number entries I don’t understand. One seems to be the interface “Reloading firewall due to ifup”.

What needs to be done to fix/troubleshoot? Thx

Blinking BLUE means it cannot detect Internet. Generally means ping cannot go through.

Does your network disables ping to some public servers e.g. Google etc.?

Yes, Google is blocked on my network, but not when tethered directly to my phone. Why does the device need Google?

Today when i looked at the firewall table there’s more than three pages of the same entry under TTL.

GL.iNet probably pings Google and OpenDNS servers (8.8.4.4 8.8.8.8 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220) to check for Internet access.

Using LuCI I found a firewall restart got rid of all the additional TTL entries (> 100) under the mangle table.

I’ve found another thread with the exact same problem here - https://forum.gl-internet.com/t/mt1300-connection-issues-wan-wifi-connected-but-no-internet/17412?u=glwoes

Below are some of the logs generated when the light changes from white to blue with slow blink. My WiFi stays connected, but there’s no internet. The tether to the phone is also up and from the phone I have internet connectivity. The router cycles from being connected to disconnected.

Any help would be appreciated. Are others having this problem?

Your link does not work for me, but I found correct the link (forum.gl-internet.com in your link should be forum.gl-inet.com). The log messages look a little different (has “Detect rtchange event”, but no “flush one”):

As alzhao stated, the GL-MT1300 cannot detect Internet as ping cannot go through, probably due to you blocking Google. You can try a test by unblocking Google because the router may be cycling to attempt to restart the WAN connection.

These logs shows that tethering interface is up and down. That maybe because your carrer blocks 8.8.8.8.
The “flush one” log may not matter.

Thank you for the replies. My home network blocks google, my verizon phone tethered to the MT1300 ostensibly does not. Regardless it seems there is no suggested fixes for this or that it’s even a problem. I want this to work. I disabled whatever the mwan3 function is under /etc/config/mwan3 under the “tethering” section, and for 2 days solid, no problems with additional TTL target entries, solid white light, steady internet, almost like it was working as designed.

Plug in a hardwired client into the LAN port (RJ45), and everything starts happening again. Light changes to blue with slow flash, internet drops, multiple TTL entries showing up in iptables.

Is there a way to fix this, I have about 20 days left before my return window closes and I don’t want to miss that. If this is expected behavior please advise. Thanks!

mwan3 handles multiple interfaces. When a new interface comes up, it kicks in. So I think when you plugged in a hardwired client, you restarted it. Then it is looking for one of the track_ip addresses.

Why not start with the suggestion to unblock things in your home network, at least temporarily. If that works, then change the track_ip addresses to things that are not blocked, and reenable your blocking.

This is a good approach. OpenWRT, not just GL.iNet, by default uses track_ip addresses of 8.8.4.4, 8.8.8.8, 208.67.222.222 208,.67.220.220 that should be easy to change.

Thank you for the responses. Google was only temporarily blocked, and only on my home network. It was never blocked on the tethered cellphone. There seems to be more. I’m not a programmer but thought page faults, debug traces, kern.err, and SIGSEGV messages were signs of problems. I’m just not sure how these message may affect operation. I’ve attached a snippet of the log containing the messages.
Configuration: internet via phone connected by tether (USB), one wireless client, one wired client. No VPN, no TOR.
