MT2500A 2.5Gbit port packet loss problems

Hi,

I purchased a Brume 2 in January to replace my APU2, but have had issues with the 2.5Gbit port getting bad packet loss. I've tried updating U-Boot with the critical fix but this hasn't appeared to have improved anything.

It looks like there is now a new revision of the Brume 2 with a different Ethernet PHY, do you know if this is to resolve the issue I am having?

One data point that is interesting is the device will work with no packet loss and then as the internal temperature sensor reports around 40C the loss will return.

I have only been running OpenWrt 24.10.0-rc5 then 24.10.1, so I am not sure if it occurs on the GL.iNet supplied firmware.

It looks like I am not the only one to suffer this problem: GL.iNet Brume 2 GL-MT2500/2500A - Discussions - #65 by cs42 - Installing and Using OpenWrt - OpenWrt Forum

Other than this issue (which to be honest makes the device unusable) I am very happy with the form factor and power efficiency of the MT2500A, so it would be a shame to have to retire it.

Thanks

Hi,

It might be encountering compatibility issues of the 2.5G port speed negotiation.

  1. Have you seen frequent down/up of the 2.5G port in the syslog?

  2. If the opposite end port is 1Gbps, try manually configuring the 1G port to work as WAN. This can help reduce the re-negotiate situations.

Where have you seen this? There are two models of the Brume 2 and the only difference is the casing, one plastic and the other is metal (A model) no internal differences.

I am using Firmware version 4.7.4 official glinet firmware along with the latest uboot fix and all is fine here. I have the plastic model.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately I have already tried setting the link speed as part of my troubleshooting process. There's also no link up/down messages logged in the syslog.

Thanks

It is mentioned here where a devicetree change was required to use the new model:

Hello,

Please try to install the GL firmware to test if this issue occurs.

Interestingly I tried the 4.7.4 GL firmware and the packet loss is not an issue!
