Hello,

Which version is better to choose: mt6000-4.9.0_release1 or mt6000-op-4.9.0-op24_beta2 ?

And when updating from version 4.8.3-op24 beta1, should I keep the previous settings or update without keeping the settings?

Among the 2 versions you stated the first one is mtk sdk and openwrt 21 based glinet custom version - suited for better compatibility.

The Op24 version is as the name suggests op24 with open source drivers (works well but you may face some rare glitches).

If you are updating from op24 version

  1. To a non op24 version - REQUIRE RESET
  2. To a op24 version I.e, 4.9.0 op24 then NO RESET REQUIRED.

Generally I would not recommend to upgrade between these distinct versions with configuration kept.

Even if GL-iNet tries the opposite I still won't recommend it, there is a layer of uncertainity if their migration works, and OpenWrt op24 does not have migration code afaik and not from itself.

So to be safe... and not creating softbrick just flash without settings kept, you could make a backup of course and then in /etc/config cherry pick configs and compare them, backups can be opened with 7zip from luci.

I do know that wireless configuration breaks, and probably has a potentional to halt the system early on boot because it fails to load wifi.

Also this is not a rule only for GL-iNet firmware, basically all different flavours, dd-wrt, and many others I see it as a general rule, I often also choose U-boot directly, between OP24 and vendor sdk that is not directly needed but kept settings is still considered dangerous.
