New device - New type of router, and other device

Hey everyone,

What do you think about release new type of device/router?
I really like GL interface, but most of selling device is a similar. What missing? Device like other (more professional) company has.

  1. Router with 2-3Wan (maybe 1 fiber) 8-10 Lan port (maybe 2 of them PoE) but no wifi, to mount in rack or distributionbox. With more vlan for IoT, and Camera, etc.

  2. Celling mount PoE powered AccesPoint with multi SSID for 4 vLAN, maybe with easy managment from Router?

  3. PoE and NoPoE switch, 8,16,24port, combination of 8x1G+8x2,5GPOE+1Fiber. I know that OpenWRT is not desing for this, but maybe GL team propose some with similar interface to this what we see in GL router.

  4. Is not router, even not network device. In forum was distcusion about instalation docker on router, what was not secure idea. But what if will be dedicate device for docker? With more RAM and SSD m2 port or buld in SSD 128GB, preinstaled docker, easy interface similar to Cosmos-Server, preconfigured instalation (like App store) popular container like HomeAssistant, NextCloud, JellyFin, Emby, and optional docker compose for more pro user?

Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in this? What do you think? Am I the only one who misses such devices?

These seem to be features of enterprise-grade routers; We will document it for the product team's reference.

Perhaps not enterprise-grade, but a bit more suited to people living in bigger houses rather than apartments. Often, a single router doesn't have good enough range to cover the entire house. Furthermore, internet providers leave the cable somewhere in the garage or attic, where the multimedia box is located. A Wi-Fi antenna in such a box is pointless, it's better to mount an AP under the ceiling in the middle of the house, with only a single cable running to it. Furthermore, homes increasingly often have IoT devices and two to four surveillance cameras.

Unless I'm the only one who needs this. I thought that after opening the thread, more people would say they need it too.

I learned that wifi can be pretty problematic especially in new build houses, the isolation can be so powerfull that you almost need a single router per room even though take a Flint 2 for example which already is powerfull, yet not enough penetration.

I'm glad they gonna release these mesh nodes I don't think a single router will fix it with those houses (hopefully with a ethernet wan too for wire)

Exactly, I have this problem. I have Ethernet cable running from the garage to my computers and TVs in every room. But for wifi for phones etc. I think I need 2 devices under the ceiling.

A Wi-Fi repeater isn't a good solution because it takes up bandwidth to transmit the signal to the router. A better solution is an access point connected to a cable; if it works on different channels, it will increase the range without reducing throughput.

I bought an old AP and a PoE switch from Zyxel, but I don't like their interface.

I was also considering an AP outside the house, but that might be a future option.
