FYI. After running a tailscale update and rebooting the unit, it broke my Comet RM1, and I couldn’t get it to bind to Tailscale from the GUI even after rebooting the unit. I reset the unit, and it reverted to version 1.82.0 under the 1.5.0 release.
Hopefully, the new firmware will fix this issue. I just noticed that a new version of Tailscale was released today, 10/23/2025!
The latest version of Tailscale may have some compatibility issues with the RM1 system. We will investigate and resolve this as soon as possible. Please temporarily use the previous version for now.
After digging through the Tailscale source code... I think I've found the cause.
Tailscale introduced a feature to reduce binary size, where on non-amd64/arm64 architectures, the iptables component is no longer compiled by default, causing the program to exit due to the inability to use iptables.
And RM1 soc is ARM32 but other product like RM1PE or RM10 is ARM64
Tailscale released 1.90.2 today, which fixes the issue. I’ve upgraded to that version on my Comet and then restarted tailscaled with /etc/init.d/S99tailscale restart. Everything is working fine!
