Since you are talking about an updated certificate: Did you reconfigure your OpenVPN connection on your phone as well? New cert means new connection - so you need to completely recreate the connection.

Thank you yes I had done that.
I had to delete and recreate the ports on the Fritzbox and that helped and now it works again.
