Openwrt 24.10.5 released - Security patched - when for Flint 2

I Bruce, I haven’t tried OP24 4.8.3 but I did read in one of the posts a few weeks back that someone was having an issue when their ISP changed the IP address (non static), they would loose connection. Someone supplied a command to add, I think it was to run every 24 hours and they said it would be fixed in the next release of OP24.

well… i’m running my flint2 with upstream openwrt 25.12-rc4 and it’s quite stable… however

yeah RCs and the first GA would not be that stable enough for daily uses as main router, but for R&D purpose, I think they should keep following the upstream to make “after the 25.12.1”s in time. I hope you don’t think they are wasting their time.

Pull the trigger mate, you wouldn't regret it, don’t forget wipe clean and start from scratch :call_me_hand:

Yes, it’s a waste of time to have the R&D team working on a Release Candidate. You’ll end up making them do the work twice.

First, wait for a stable OpenWrt release (in my point ov view, neither -rc nor .0 versions are truly stable). Then, task the team with working on that stable build. Otherwise, GL-iNet will just be layering new bugs on top of existing ones, making the whole thing a nightmare to fix.

Thank you for your suggestions!
We have to resolved some issues on the SDK first, and also need create the apk repo, etc.
Please wait a while.

OHH I see — that issue is rare. Does your ISP frequently change your dynamic public IP address? And the assumes using a PPPoE to connect.

If it doesn't change often, you shouldn't encounter this issue.

You can safely upgrade to the latest op24 firmware to try it out, please do not keep settings.

i think you’ll get op25 based firmware when nearly op26(or maybe 27?) branches out if they start their work on 25.12.1

I don’t know when OpenWrt 26 or 27 will be released, but I wouldn't expect GL-iNet to release a stable firmware based on OpenWrt 25 before the end of this year.

In my experience:

  • If you want OpenWrt, go straight to Vanilla OpenWrt.
  • If you want GL-iNet firmware, expect it to be about a year behind the official OpenWrt releases.

When I was using GL-iNet’s firmware, I was on this forum every week complaining about bugs.
Since moving to Vanilla OpenWrt, I haven't encountered a single issue.

well then just let them do their work on their own timeline… i already stated i’m running my flint 2 on upstream 25.12-rc4 and happy with it

So running on that firmware what user interface other than Luci do you use? Curious as I might make the move from the Open24 here to the newer versions of vanilla OpenWrt.

The delay is really unacceptable. Stuck on the current op24 for months now, really poor.

Only stock luci available in vanilla openwrt

I fully agree. And no ETA being given is also very disappointing. I feel like the priority of the firmware updates has been placed on the back burner. Which again is not ideal considering it has a lot of potential that has not been tapped yet.

Does the GL interface work with the build you made or is it strictly Luci interface only?

Can you share the build you created? I am using qosmate and geomate a lot for gaming and also adguard home for DNS encrypted protection.

I'd like to try the build you created as I am still teaching myself the ways of Linux and command lines, etc on the daily with my new 2nd computer I built a few weeks ago.

Please share?

Do not use 25.12.1
It introduced many latency issues.

Perhaps is better to wait for 25.12.3 :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I have been running vanilla OpenWRT builds of my own on Flint 2 for quite a while, and 25.12.2, 25.12.3 and 25.12.4 are all very good. Wireless drivers current as of March 21, 2026. All functions including HW acceleration are working well, and very stable. Very much liking 25.12.4.
