Operation Timed Out during network scan on Mudi E750

My Mudi is getting unbearable to use due to a single bug that still hasn’t been fixed with firmware updates. Lately every trip to a coffee shop has turned into a 15 minute project of restarts, config pages, and refreshing 1.1.1.1 in browser.

Using the repeater function, the little circle spins next to “Join Wifi” while looking for new networks, and eventually gives up, “Operation Timed Out” in a red box, showing no new networks, not highlighting in green the symbols to the left of the networks I have been to before.

After a lot of trial and error and forum searching over the years, I found out going to Luci and resetting both radios allows the network scan again.

But WHAT is going on? I have to do this pretty much every day now. A hard reset will “fix” the issue for a week or so, then whatever happens keeps happening again. A restart does not cure it either. Something is “filling up” as my layman guess. Yes, I have like 100 saved networks, but surely this is nothing memory-wise?

I am tired of hard resets and re-entering all the wifi networks, only for this to happen again soon. The ease of walking from outside to inside and the Mudi switching from cellular to wifi is a distant memory.

What is going on? I really wish the Mudi got more firmware update love too… there’s nothing like it that is newer, or I would buy it.

  1. It is recommended to use the latest stable or V4.7.2beta firmware

  2. When scanning WiFi, the terminal device may disconnect from the E750 WiFi connection, causing the current WiFi scanning interface to be blank. Please check the connection between the device and the router in time (check automatic connection). If conditions permit, use an extender for wired connection.

  3. If the WiFi list saved by your device still cannot be loaded, please try to export the router log to us

I am using the latest stable.
I'm not talking about the wifi disconnect. It fails to find new networks.

No ideas? I am resetting the radios every time I use my Mudi now because of this issue.

It's strange. Does it only fail to scan some special networks?
You are currently using the stable version V4.3.26. You can try the beta version V4.7.2.

Optimized some repeater functions.

No, it fails to scan at all, won’t show any networks, even those I have previously joined. Operation timed out message while the list of wifi networks remains unrefreshed/gray. I reset the radios in Luci and go back to repeater function and it works again, for maybe another day.

The E750's performance may be weak, causing the WiFi interface to take too long to respond when scanning for WiFi.

After the reset, the router doesn't store any information, and the WiFi list updates relatively quickly.

But there's no way this is working as designed, as it takes too long to respond after using for one day. Resetting the radios (not the firmware) fixes it meaning there is something somewhere getting "full" is my guess. Not working as intended.

I am also experiencing this issue..

My E750 had me upgrade it shortly before this problem started occurring. I'm not sure which version I was on previously, however.

Firmware is up to date.
Current Firmware
Version 4.0
Firmware Type 0326 release1
Compile Time 2025-04-08 9:58:40 (UTC+08:00)

Temporary Workaround: I have discovered a temporary but consistent workaround. If I log into the advanced settings (LuCI), navigate to Network -> Wireless, and edit the settings for either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz radio to change the "Country Code," the Wi-Fi scan immediately starts working again. I can change it from US - United States to another country, or even change it from one country back to the US, and it will work for that session. However, upon the next reboot of the router, the problem returns, and I must repeat this process every time I power it on.

@AndrewZorn, how are you "resetting" the radios? You make it sound easier than what I was doing.

That's funny, I was thinking your solution seemed easier. Mine requires waiting for wifi connection again.

On the same page as you describe, Luci/Network/Wireless, I click the "Restart" button on the line of radio0 and radio1. I am not looking at the setup page of my Mudi right now, but rather my Beryl, which shows different radio names.

Lol.. I upgraded to the latest beta version last night.. After that it saw my home and neighbor Wi-Fi networks.. Previously it did not. So, :crossed_fingers:, maybe that will fix it for now.

Oh and changing country settings isn't fast. It still resets things and verifies it works otherwise it'll roll back after 90 seconds or so.

Well can't even upgrade from the latest official firmware to the beta. I keep getting "upload failed" and have tried re downloading multiple times. This firmware doesn't have the option for preview program or whatever they called it to upgrade to the beta within the UI. Not sure what to do next short of trying a hard reset (again).

Sorry, did you upgrade the firmware using the local upgrade method on the router management page?
Perhaps you can double-check that the downloaded and uploaded firmware is correct.

If that doesn't work, you can also try reinstalling the beta firmware via U-Boot.
What should I do if my router is bricked - GL.iNet Router Docs 4

The upload doesn't work on local upgrade. I can't do online upgrade to the beta because this version does not support preview program. I guess I will try U-Boot.

As a follow up, I was able to update to the latest firmware, and the problem is not happening - yet. Hesitant to call it solved, since this is the same behavior (functionality) that I get after a radio/firmware reset too.
