I am having a weird issue with my flint 2 since moving to a new internet vendor in Netherlands (KPN). I used to be with Ziggo with the firmware version up to 4.8.3 which uses DHCP for incoming connection and with my 1gbps connection I used to get close to 800mbp connection on wifi at the other end of the house and close to 1gbps wired.
After moving to KPN I had to switch to PPPoE setting and since then I am getting less than 500mbps connection speeds on wifi or wired connections. I have tried to play with different MTU values as suggested on this forum but the connection rarely goes above 500mbps. I am getting a throughput of close to 1gbps if I use the KPN provided router but ofcourse then i miss functionalities that I am used to with Glinet. My friends who are using Unifi and Microtik routers don’t have this issue. I am currently on the v4.8.3 firmware.
It would be really nice and helpful if there are some tips or solution to this problem otherwise would have to move to another routher as my contract is for another 2 years.
Iver try a Reset Firmware, Note this will clear all settings back to default.
Or as i did have kinda same prob with PPPoE been stuck slow till i random changed my mac address that some how fixed it for me from been stuck slow, When you change mac address it will take 2 mins of trying to connect, After that it will connect to that address. im on slaf 7 pro v4.8.4 fw thought but did kinda have same prob with PPPoE now mines fine.
PS; I carnt say if its router or ISP that can throttle connection.
Thank you will try this, haven’t tried this yet. I have already reset it multiple times, changed cables and tried different firmwares nothing has helped so far. ISP shouldn’t be throttling as my friends are also using 3rd party routers and piholes and don’t see this issue.
If you connect a PC directly to the KPN router/modem operating in bridge/passthrough mode and establish the PPPoE connection from the PC itself, what speeds are you able to achieve?
We have previously encountered cases where certain ISP modems/routers did not perform well in bridge mode, so we would like to rule out a similar issue.
Back on the Flint 2, when running a Speedtest from a LAN device, please SSH into the router and check the CPU usage:
If you reset the Flint 2 and configure only the minimum settings required for internet access (for example, PPPoE and Wi-Fi), does the situation improve?
