Printer connection to a Slate- issues w/wireless connection

GL-AXT 1800 - trying to use a printer with this router but no success at present- what am I missing?. This is the setup:
-axt1800 tethered to iPhone - no issues

act1800 has main and guest network enabled for both frequencies (2.4,5ghz)
no issue for laptops/phones etc. to connect internet using both networks/frequency
known to work Brother printer configured & connected wirelessly to the 2.4 ghz frequency of the guest network but will not print any documents ( "printer error")

Is a wireless printer configuration a no go or does the printer need to be specifically configured via ethernet or usb interface?

Could be you have ap isolation on the guest network which would then stop devices communicating with the printer via guest network.

Turn off AP isolation on guest or just move the printer to the LAN SSID

Afaik you can't turn off the isolation on guest - you can only turn off client-to-client communication within the guest network, which won't help here.

So moving the printer to main is the only thing you can really do.

On the mobile app you can click on guest network > Security Options > AP Isolation and toggle it on / off...

I can't check on the web interface if there's a toggle as my brume 2 doesn't have WiFi but you sure there's no option, seems odd?

AP Isolation will isolate devices inside the guest network so they can't talk to each other.

I guess @skingjack would like to talk from LAN to Guest, which will not work because of the design itself.

I was under the assumption he was on the guest network and trying to print via a client on the guest (his phone) and if that was the case the toggle should work for that scenario however best practise would be LAN for the printer as it just makes life easier.

Without going too off topic here - What's the different between "isolation on guest" vs "client-to-client communication" isn't that pretty much the same thing?

And the toggle I mention on the guest via the android app, isn't that turning on / off isolation on the guest?

Guest network itself:

Will block any traffic between LAN (so main Wi-Fi) and Guest Wi-Fi.
This is by default and not changeable
Wouldn't make sense to change it anyway

Devices inside Guest can talk to each other.

AP isolation:

Will block any traffic between LAN (so main Wi-Fi) and Guest Wi-Fi.
Devices inside the Guest Wi-Fi can't talk to each other.

Right, so it's what I thought.

It's just the terminology of AP Isolation you would assume it means network to network isolation rather than client to client isolation.

A big thank you to all that replied - problem is solved.
The solution was to change over to the main wifi and configure the printer to
same wifi (2.4ghz).
