I’ll try to play around with the AT commands, but there is something I don’t understand:

After my SIM connected I am trying to get my current network:
AT+COPS?
which results in
+COPS: 0,0,"Telekom.de heyah",7

That’s great.

But when I do
AT+COPS=?
to list all available networks, the modem dies. GUI tells me the USB modem is unavailable and the “Internet” LED on the front turns off. Ping is working without problem - so something is odd here.

After a reboot everything is fine again. The same happens when I send AT-COPS=? by using socat /dev/ttyUSB2

If the AT instruction is not supported, the AT instruction interface is blocked.
You won’t be able to get information through the AT command.The interface displayed on the web interface also disappears.

Not sure if I’m smarter than before now:

AT+QCFG="data_interface"
+QCFG: "data_interface",1,0

OK

and the modem is gone again.

Edit: But just for a few seconds, than it comes back. Is this the command to revive it?

‘AT+COPS=?’ is a long response instruction.But web pages do not support long response instructions.

It will block the AT instruction channel so that it cannot detect the modem.

It needs to be executed with the following instructions:
gl_modem -B 0001:01:00.0 SAT sp AT+COPS=?

I'm getting the same 3 providers listet in my location: Vodafone, Telekom and O2. But the main question still remains: how can I switch from currently Vodafone to let's say Telekom? This is something really essential if we talk about travel router. In my iphone I have the setting: automatic provider selection. If this is selected, the iphone picks the best possible connection that fits to my vodafone simcard. But if Vodafone connectivity sucks in my location, I can unselect "automatic provider selection" and I get a list as shown above where I can select the one that has highest signal quality. Again..... this is essential when travelling.
Initially I thought this was done by selecting profiles...... but this is not working and has no functionality in my X3000

You can't.

You can only connect to providers your SIM is valid for. So choosing a different provider is mostly only possible while being abroad due to roaming.

And then you need to use AT commands, unfortunately. A GUI isn't available.

thx admon for your fast response! I tried last week in France. I was travelling and on my iphone I had to switch from vodafone (my provider in Germany) to Orange in France. So I allowed roaming on the iphone and switched off the automatic provider selection and selected Orange instead. Switching the provider in France in the X3000 with a vodafone card was not easy at all. I couldn't make it happen.
Can you give me some instructions? I can connect with SSH and I can use manual AT commands. Maybe there is a way to save AT commands in future so that these can be reused easily to switch provider

Unfortunately, I can't help with that because I don't use cellular internet.

OK, I guess this is far more complex than most of us can handle. Without a good UI (like in the iphone) most of the travelling users won't be able to switch provider and the X3000 becomes a useless piece of hardware.
I guess the only way to switch provider is via the AT commands: in this case I would probably use the AT command: AT+COPS=4,2,26201 (where 26201 is the mcc/mnc code for Telekom in Germany, see www.mcc-mnc.com ) to switch to Telekom and default back to my standard provider.
In France I should have used: AT+COPS=4,2,20801 for Orange

My question would be; why can't GL build a GUI that is capable to select a provider (ie: 1.select your region....Europe 2. select the country......France 3. select a provider .....Orange 4. execute in the background the corresponding AT+COPS=4,2,mccmcn

Alternatively use: gl_modem -B 0001:01:00.0 SAT sp AT+COPS=? and find the available networks and as a second step select one of them with AT+COPS=4,2,mccmcn

This would do the job.
