Recently, any blockage i set on GL inet routers failed to function on 1 specific PC

hi, I used to setup like this:
ISP —> brumeW → opal → switch → win10 PCs, androids, CBs etc

i use both adguard and adblock on opal.
for the androids, CBs, yes, any browser and any apps were blocked.

But for the PC.
some time ago it also works.
but recently, NO, it specifically DONT work. i.e. my win10 PC could still go those rubbish sites like youtube; while youtube is really blocked on android/CBs.

  1. i’ll suspect my win10 PC specifically got infected, and the network set thru some tunnels.
    i’ll suspect this because even i set youtube.com to be 10.0.0.1 on my host file, the browser could still go to youtube.com

anyway, i tried google and found

tested with
tracert apple.com

x.85.1 is opal, x.8.1 is brumeW.

Can anyone tell me is there a problem?

i am going to re-install windows but not immediately.
could someone suggest a time frame for me please? thanks

Check you ethernet and Wifi Properties for internet protical version 4 DNS settings

i chose the DNS for that pc to be 8.8.8.8;
will that affect? thx

The DNS setting on your PC should be set to Automatic so that the DNS server comes from DHCP. This is probably how the android devices are set up and working.

If you manually set the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 (or specific IP address), then DNS requests will not go through the AdGuardHome server and go directly to 8.8.8.8.

I do not work for and I am not directly associated with GL.iNet

in that case,
if the setting tab of IP4 is NOT locked,
any web locking like adguard/adblock is a joke.

What is the setting tab of IP4 that you are referring to?

If you manually set the DNS server on a PC, Android device, Chromebook, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Linux, smart TV, etc. then the same behaviour would occur on any standard router or device running AdGuardHome. This is standard networking and is actually good because it allows the user to have greater control to override.

i mean,
if i wanna block the rubbsih websites from the kid.

ok, i setup adguard, i setup adblock.

then, if the kid could simply change the DNS from default → 8.8.8.8;
and could then access rubbish sites.

then, what’s the point of blocking those sites? and the mechanism?

if one can control him/herself NOT to change the DNS server and thus wont access those sites,

then what’s the point to block them?

You may not have the intended expectation. AdGuardHome is only for blocking DNS resolution and is not a complete parental control system, which needs to filter out traffic to the actual sites/IP addresses themselves.

The point of AdGuardHome is blocking DNS resolution, under normal usage and not deliberate circumvention, to known sites that have annoying known sites with ads, porn, malware, tracking, etc., which is what I use it for and it works well.

I know multiple high school students who have figure out how to get a VPS and setup their own VPN, to get around their schools and their families attempts at blocking their Internet access. Some kids are really smart.
