Hi,
I use a Sonicwall router to provide internet via a fibre connection but this drops out from time time. When this happened I would connect my Pixel 8 phone to the X1 WAN port via an ethernet adapter which gave internet to the whole house until the outage was over.
This was a bit faffy so I thought about trying a wireless bridge on X2 of the Sonicwall to the wifi hotspot of the Pixel. And failover to it when X1 was down.
I have a TP-Link MR3040 mini router with ‘client’ mode from yesteryear which seems to do the trick. It’s 2.4Ghz only with a 100Mb ethernet port. The Pixel can get over 500Mb/s on a 5G connection with the Three network so although it works and is reliable I thought I’d look further afield.
I posted on Reddit and someone said to look at the GL.Inet routers which offer similar functionality but 5GHz and gigabit ethernet.
I bought the SFT-1200 (Opal) model but while it will connect to the Pixel 8 it frequently disconnects. Every 10 seconds or so and also often won’t attempt to reconnect. Ive tried 3.x and 4.x firmwares, router with Repeater mode, then Extender mode. It’s just hasn’t been reliable.
It was a good price though.
Can anyone recommend a model that works without issues connecting to a Pixel phone hotspot? I’ve read the Mango might work better but don’t want to wing and prayer it.
Thanks
Mike
