Recommendation for Pixel 8 Hotspot

It’s very kind of you to help.

My colleague told me the repeater will disable the sta interface if it encounters a “WRONG_KEY” error in 4.x firmware.
So I suggest you downgrade the firmware to 3.216 and disable the repeater manager if you still keep the device. @McMuckle

This way, the repeater will always try to connect the same AP while disabling the logic for trying the next available SSID.
We may optimize the repeater manager program for the “WRONG_KEY” scenarios. @JerryZhao

Hi,

I have downgraded the firmware back to 3.216 and under ‘Repeater Options’ I have disabled ’ auto scan and reconnect’ ( is this what you meant by ‘disable repeater manager?)’

I have reconnected to the Pixel 8 hotspot and been monitoring the connections for most of the morning. The connection has been up for about 4hrs - nice solid white light on the SFT1200.

I then turned off the hotspot to simulate the phone leaving the house, then turned it back on again. Only the TP-Link reconnected. The SFT1200 shows “Repeater (STA) is disabled/not configured. Setup Now. Scan”.

The hotspot is still saved under “Saved Networks”. There are no other wifi networks saved on the SFT1200.

I have manually, via the GUI, tried to join to the Hotspot again. It eventually connected after a minute or so, but then dropped again after a few seconds. It is back to connecting, showing an IP address but then dropping off again almost straight away.

I’ll post some logs.

Thanks for the test and log, we’ll look into this further.

So I’ve been flashing a Meraki MR12 with OpenWrt to have something to compare my issues with the SFT-1200 too and guess what … same issue.

The MR12 will connect and stay connected to my home wifi no problem, but when I add the Pixel Hotspot it scans and finds it no problem, lets me add the WPA key and then brings up the connection for all of 10 seconds and then it drops.

The issue is described here

https://www.reddit.com/r/openwrt/s/RH80lvHtNa

So I’ll see if wwanHotspot can help with this and report back.

So have possibly had a breakthrough with the SFT-1200. I saw a post which recommended removing any reference to the BSSID when creating the wifi connection to the hotspot. This can’t be done in the GL GUI but can be done retrospectivly in Luci.

Have done this in both the SFT and the Meraki and both are now staying connected AND reconnecting when the hotspot is turned on/reappears again.

I also updated to latest 4.3.7 firmware but same issue was occurring before removing the BSSID.

Hope this helps others who may be struggling.

Cheers

Great news, thanks for sharing.
Can you confirm that the BSSID of the pixel hotspot has changed?

I can confirm that each time the hotspot is turned off and back on again, it’s BSSID as shown in the GL.inet GUI changes.

With the changes in Luci, it reconnects to the hotspot even with new BSSID

Excellent, thank you very much for that info.
