Use the ssh cell to change the router config file.

Even if this might be true it’s totally useless to hide the DNS name. There are plenty of other ways to discover the device.

It’s just snake oil.

Hi GoodlifeBL,

I am trying to remove the host name completely not rename the router.
All 99% of routers don’t resolve there own host names. Is there really no way of doing this? Yes we know there are easy ways to detect stuff but why make it easy?

is there anyways we can drop trace route traffic from the router via the wireguard interface etc?? maybe ping aswell

have you solved this issue?
you can change both in Luci,
one change in Network --\> hostnames
the other in System --\> System --\> hostname

hope this helps.

Hey. Thanks for the try. I know you can change the name there. However I want to leave it blank so when I run a Trace route (tracert) I don't get that name showing.

You can chance the name but not leave it blank. And if you eddidt the file via ssh it placed a random EE name or an \* instead.

Since this is in luci there are a few ways to disable it:

- through network -\> dhcp -\> hostnames just delete entry if exists.
- through system -\> system you can leave it empty
- and probably the most important one, through network -\> interfaces -\> wan/wwan (click edit) -\> advanced tab, there is a dropdown to not sent hostname to the host.

You likely have to set them all for it to work 👍

Hi, sorry, how it's called the last option, the dropdown to not sent hostname? I can't find it in my Flint 2!

actually I was wrong, I had to re-look myself 🙂

it's under luci -\> network -\> interfaces -\> wan/wwan and then under the general settings tab.

note that this only works when the protocol was dhcp, pppoe doesn't show this option.
