Router lost/stolen

My Slate Plus A-1300 was lost and possibly ended up in someone's possession. The admin console is under a strong password. No vpn clients were set up - router was only used to connect to hotel wi fi networks.

Are there any security considerations I should be concerned about ?

Not really. The new „owner“ might reset it anyway.

Have you registered it on goodcloud?
If it's registered on goodcloud, it does not matter if it's reset, it'll show up on your account as soon as goodcloud is enabled after reset.

Thank you for a quick reply.

Yes, that would be the best scenario.

Unfortunately, no. Although it wouldn't really help much if I did because I wouldn't be able to return it anyway.

So I assume I just have to let it go and buy a new one. No need to change passwords for my frequently used accounts, etc.?

Only if they are connected to your router. So at least change your VPN password if used.

The router was found by airport security and was promptly sent to me at the destination airport. So, my precious (in Gollum's voice) arrived safely . He he!

Glad to hear that you have got your router back. Just curious to know how the authorities have managed to trace it back to you as its owner.

That was pretty easy. I knew almost exactly the time when I went through the security to the clean zone (to the gates). And it was on the security checkpoint where I lost the router - I just forgot to pick it from the tray. I travel with a lot of devices and airport security is always getting very nervous about my suitcase  They had me to put literally everthing on the belt - so it is no surprise I forgot this tiny little precious there.

So I contacted them and sent pictures of me, my router and described how I was dressed that day. They looked up security cameras and that helped them locate the router. I believe it just ended up in their lost & found department. Then they used some international routine that allows them to dispatch forgotten items to the destination airport in a sealed bag.

In fact I expected that it would be easy to find out what happened with the router, but I would never imagine that it would be so easy to get it back. I was really impressed.

Sounds pretty much like some sort of a plot from a spy movie. :joy:. No wonder you made them feel nervous :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.
