Should I upgrade my slate ax running Wireguard Client to V4.6.4?

Hi,

Please find below my setup :

  1. I have two routers at client side:
  • A router provided by ISP (speed 500Mbps)
  • A GL.iNet SlateAX running version v4.4.6 running a wireguard VPN connected via wifi to ISP router
  1. At home server side, I have two routers
  • A router running provided by ISP(500Mbps coaxial) with port forwarding to my Opal (GL-SFT1200)
  • A Opal (GL-SFT1200) running a wireguard server and router on version v3.216 connected via cable.

Problem: I am wondering if I should upgrade my Client side SlateAX router? I'm worried as before i faced an issue where I upgraded my SlateAX(by keeping the user settings) and my wireguard client stopped working, I had to resort to buying a Mullvad vpn.
Now i tried deleting all the server and client settings on both routers and setting up from scratch and the connection seem to work but with less speeds(50Mbps).

I've read posts where users suggest to not keep the settings while upgrading the firmware.
What are the suggested approaches for upgrading and is it even suggested to upgrade firmware. I am just worried the new firmware fixes some DNS leaks bugs which may be happening.

Since the Slate is only client side, give the update a try. Worst what might happen is that you need to flash the 4.6.3 again.

Keeping settings isn't required while upgrading minir versions.

Yeah but jump from 4.4.x to 4.6.x is quite the major jump right. Basically i skipped the whole 4.5 series. Your suggestion is that i should or should not keep settings?

Youre right. 4.6 is kind of a major update so keeping settings isnt that recommended although you may try it once and just reflash if theres a problem

Ah, sorry. I misread it. From 4.4.x to 4.6.x it's more "dangerous", you are right.

I will wait for a day or two for an official tech support guy to respond incase there are known bugs already.

Or perhaps someone is already in my shoes and has successfully upgraded or is suffering post upgrade

Is there a guide here on how to reflash to an older version ? I usually upgrade via the GUI, i have never downgraded.

Same procedure, just upload the older image. If that fails, go with Debrick via Uboot - GL.iNet Router Docs 4
