Slate7 Guest WiFi Different DNS

Hi Team,

I have a Slate7 which I have setup in various combos depending on my use case.

At the moment, I have my normal network setup ready to go, ideally I would like to setup a guest wifi network that uses a different DNS server to the main network.

Eg primary network uses CloudFlare to get around Australia’s lovely DNS filtering for certain sites. This is fine for my normal connection as I am using CloudFlare vs the ISP supplied DNS Blocks.

What I would like to do though is offer the Guest WiFi Network, but have it use the following 1.1.1.2 or 9.9.9.9 or even OpenDNS to have better protection on the guest network.

Is it possible to setup different DNS servers for the guest WiFi on the Slate7?

Hi

You can modify the DHCP configuration of the Guest Network to distribute different DNS servers.
Of course, please note that this will not take effect if the client uses encrypted DNS or a custom one.

Please refer to: Guest Network - GL.iNet Router Docs 4

Are you comfortable using openwrt command line?

No i am not sorry.

That manual / guide didn’t show any options about the guest network just the normal LAN / DHCP unless I have missed something.

Oh, I think this statement might not be prominent enough.

Other basic settings and the DHCP server settings are the same as LAN.

The DNS settings distributed by DHCP are here:

Based on this, this doesn’t appear to offer different DNS settings for the guest network.
