SMS/texting with Gl inet MiFi for the purpose of SIM activation

Having to use my recently acquired Mifi abroad with local data SIMs the situation could arise that I have to active the SIM with a SMS/text message and enter a code. I have no clue how to do this within the UI and I am not very familiar with AT commands (maybe there is a template for this specific task).
Is it possible just to activate the SIM in a separate smartphone and subsequently transfer the SIM into the Mifi device, or is activation EMEI specific.
My apologies if this question was raised before.
Your help is greatly appreciated

You can just activate in your phone then insert into the MiFi.

We are making the UI to send message directly in MiFi.
