What’s the difference between the Native OpenWrt 24 Firmware 4.8.2-op24 (63 MB) from the GL.iNet website and the 24.10.2 install file (10 MB) from the OpenWrt.org website? I’m surprised by the difference in file sizes. Thanks.
I assume you asked the Vanilla OpenWRT snapshot firmware.
You can try to flash the 2 firmware for your router, in the easiest way to compare the functions: login the GL GUI of GL firmware and Luci of Vanilla OpenWRT, and you will know why the firmware of GL firmware is larger.
Router is Flint 2.
From GL.iNet website, what’s the difference between “Stable” and “Native OpenWrt 24 Firmware”?
I think I am misunderstanding the meaning of “Native OpenWrt 24 Firmware”?
Thanks.
Stable is mostly OpenWrt 21 with GL modifications and special drivers for Wi-Fi.
Native OpenWrt 24 is OpenWrt 24 with GL modifications and OpenWrt drivers.
Why would someone choose the Native version? Thanks!
Version, op24, newer plug-in version with (probably) more features (but we do not provide technical support for third-party plug-ins).
Wireless, in some scenarios, the repeater only with open-source driver is able to connect to the EAP WiFi.
These are just a few examples; I think there are many more, and none is better than the others—they all work well.
