Unable to Download Router Configuration File (cgi-backup.txt) via Browser – Request for Effective Solution

I am currently unable to download the configuration backup file (cgi-backup.txt) from my router's web interface. I have tried using both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, but the file does not download successfully. There are no error messages, and the download appears to be silently blocked or ignored by the browsers.

I have already attempted several troubleshooting steps, including:

  • Disabling real-time antivirus and firewall protection
  • Disabling all browser security features (Safe Browsing and download protection)

Unfortunately, none of these methods resolved the issue.

Could you kindly advise:

  1. What is the best and most effective way to download the router configuration file?
  2. If there is an alternative method to back up or export the router settings?

The file is not called cgi-backup.txt
Where do you try to download it? It's an tar.gz archive.

Hello any solution on this? Both Edge and Chrome same result.

Please share a screenshot of how you try to download the file.

I noticed that when I try to download using my Android phone, everything works fine. However, I'm experiencing issues on all devices running Windows 11.

I'm not sure if this problem is related to the latest Windows 11 24H2 update, as all my Windows 11 devices are facing the same issue.

Appreciate your advice or any assistance on this matter.

Please provide an screenshot of your issue.

That's pretty weird because it shouldn't be some txt file, it's a tar.gz mostly.
Maybe your anti-virus software or AdBlocker or something like this is the issue?

No 3rd party anti virus, just windows defender. Using Incognito in Chrome it seem working, while InPrivate for Edge.

Seems to be something special inside the browser settings then - maybe you need to reset the browser.

I factory reset the router and upload the config and now showing this:

Thenafter I rebooted the router, is no factory reset on the latest firmware?

In that case, the config isn't compatible, somehow.
That's a big issue since the config is raw there is no check if it might break something or not.

I would recommend going with a full reset (either by GL GUI or using SSH command firstboot -y && reboot and not trying to restore the whole config again. However you can read the backup file and try to adjust the settings manually.
