OK, so following on from my previous post, I followed some advice to clear the Google Play cache on the Samsung (Android) tablet I use for my smart home.
Not sure if just coincidence, but suddenly no problem connecting my two old LWR01s. First to Ikea Dirigera Smart home app. Then to the Lafaer app. Both now working fine to turn on/off lights in bathrooms.
However the latest LWR01 which I purchased absolutely refuses to get past the ‘Connecting to your Thread router stage). Though - very oddly - it appears as an icon in the Lafaer app - but when you click on the item icon, no settings are shown as available.
I have zero knowledge of Matter, but I am wondering if the following are possible issues:
a) my first two LWR01s have 1.0.0 firmware. Is it possible that the new LWR01 has a later firmware, and that is the cause? (talking of which, do LWR01s get over-the-air fw updates?)
or
b) the fact that I DID initially get the LWR01 to be seen by Thread/the Ikea Dirigera Smart home app has somehow confused Thread/Smart home /Lafaer app due to me having to add it again?
Having said that, I did go as far as un- and re-installing the Lafaer app, and resetting Thread on the Dirigera router.
I wonder if there is some software out there which can interrogate the Matter/Thread part of the Dirigera and possible supply some error codes? Like would happen if one had problems with an MAC to IP connection in a standard router.
So, (doing exactly what I did previously) the Ikea Dirigera Smart home app said “Adding to Smart home” then timed out. Trying a few more times, the new LWR01 did finally get added to the Smart home app and I could successfully link to an Ikea plug device.
However… despite the Lafaer app showing the new device in its UI, when I clicked on the icon I just got the ‘(press the button to get slow flashing blue light and then Scan’ message).
Again, problems - the blue light would eventually time out and when I pressed the LWR01 icon, it would repeat the same message - in other words I could see the settings for the item in Ikea Smart home app but not the settings in the Lafaer app.
All very odd, as clearly the Dirigera hub and Matter/Thread seemed to be happy to communicate with the LWR01… but not the Lafaer app on my tablet.
The next morning I tried again, same thing. However the final time, as the blue light was flashing after pressing Scan, I pressed the item icon in the Lafaer app - and suddenly the settings appeared fine.
My two cents - until Ikea do their own presence sensor, it is clearly in Lafaer’s interest to make sure that the onboarding of the LWR02 works smoothly. If my company, I think I would spend some time achieving this… and then make sure social media was aware that the LWR02 installed easily into the millions of Ikea Dirigera powered systems worldwide, so that the sales volume increased exponentially. : o)
We appreciate you sharing the full experience and what eventually worked for you. This information may be helpful to other users who encounter a similar issue when adding an LWR01 to DIRIGERA.
Thank you as well for your suggestion. We will noted your feedback regarding the LWR01 and Lafaer app of the integration.
