Upgrade from 3 to 4 firmware

When trying to upgrade to 4 it advice me that some setups will be lost.
I have wlan setup and some firewall rules set-up from the luci interface.
Upgrading I will loose this configurations?

Yes, you will lose all configuration.
This is by design and definitely needed due to the changes in the underlying OS.

Screenshot your firewall rules and build them again after your upgrade is the most easiest way.

Why don't harmonize version configuration migration to not loose important configurations like firewalls and vlans? The vlans is a really bad config to recreate

I can only tell you that configuration will be reset during major upgrades. It's your choice to upgrade or not.

Unfortunately, GL iNet does not and never has handled upgrading configurations between firmware versions, and after seeing many request for this feature over the years, I don't think they will ever fix it. I am sure it is a business decision where the cost vs potential to sell more routers does not support the work. If people stop buying routers with poor update support, maybe this would change.

Many of us who own and support multiple GL iNet routers have had to build our own backup and restore procedures. This saves me a lot of time during upgrades, and several times when I have had to downgrade due to bugs in the new firmware,it is nice to have the old configuration saved, so I can just drop it back in.

Thank you. There are free custom scripts that I can use? I want to restore vlans, wireguard server and firewall rules.

I have my own scripts and docs that I have written for several GL iNet models, but I don't release them, as I don't want to support them. GL iNet changes too many things between their different router models. When they do an upgrade, they document almost nothing about what they change. There is no way that I would ever try to publicly maintain a tool for GL iNet.

If you search through old forum posts, you will find some posts on different tools that users have made available, but I would be surprised if any are kept up to date.
