US considering ban on Chinese-made internet routers

What if they put GL . iNet on this ban, I got a new GL router before I switch everything.

The rest of the world will be doing the opposite and boycotting the US very sadly but very likely.

If Chinese-made routers were banned, Americans will be forced to use typewriters again.

And by having to use typewriters, Americans will also have to go back to using the USPS again! :joy:

The U.S. government is considering a ban on TP-Link routers due to national security concerns. TP-Link is a China-based company that makes Wi-Fi routers.

Why the ban?

  • Cybersecurity risks

Government officials worry that China could use TP-Link routers to attack U.S. infrastructure and military readiness.

  • Cyberespionage

TP-Link routers could be used to collect information on the public from home router systems.

  • Malware attacks

TP-Link routers have been involved in a network of hacked routers used in malware attacks.

Potential impact

  • A ban on TP-Link could disrupt the U.S. router market.

  • It could lead to increased prices and reduced options for consumers.

Current status

  • The Commerce, Defense, and Justice departments are investigating TP-Link routers.

  • TP-Link is cooperating with the U.S. government to prove its technology is safe and secure.

Comparison to Huawei

A ban on TP-Link would be a significant move to remove Chinese telecommunications equipment from the American market, similar to the actions taken against Huawei in 2019.
