Hi all, just a quick question - does anyone have any idea why the USB port on the GL-SFT1200 travel router sometimes randomly stops working? It can sometimes happen in as little as a few minutes.
I can be tethering my hotspot via USB & it will sometimes randomly stop recognising a device is plugged into the USB port & I have to unplug the power to the router & then plug it back in to restart it and get it working again?
The phone stops charging & then I have no internet connection, & the interface for the router when you log in to it shows there’s nothing connected in the USB tethering option like the USB port has turned itself off?
I try unplugging the USB & plugging it back in & it still doesn’t charge the phone or show that anything is connected - yet when I unplug the power to the router & plug that back in it all starts to work again?
Only just got the router 2 days ago solely for playing on my PlayStation Portal away from home & it’s very annoying having to reset it multiple times a day when you’re in the middle of a game & it goes off!
It has the latest firmware on it (available for this router anyway)
I found this in the logs about overcurrent, does that mean if I can’t get it to work with an external powered USB hub as mentioned previously, I can’t tether? It seems to have stopped working altogether now even after restarting & the USB port doesn’t work - it flashes up as charging for a second and goes off.
If I can’t disable the charging or get it to work with an external powered USB hub it means that this router is currently of no use to me as I bought it specifically for USB tethering whilst out fishing…
For anyone else struggling with this same issue, I have got a solution:
So my powerbank wasn't supplying adequate power to the router for USB tethering from the USB A output port on the powerbank - when using the USB C output port on the powerbank to power the router with a cable that is USB C on both ends, it now seems to work flawlessly & doesn't disable the USB port on the router!
So for anyone wanting to use this travel router with a powerbank & USB tethering, ensure your powerbank has a USB C output port to power the router as this provides more power output than a USB A
This is a SiFlower CPU solution with hardware design so we cannot change things, but can properly improve the USB device does not connect to high current, or add an USB hub with external power.
Hi see my previous response - I worked out the issue was due to inadequate power from the power bank for usb tethering via USB A. It would be good if we could disable usb charging in the future though
