i have tried connecting the usb150 as a repeater to a router, that also runs openwrt - linksys wrt3200acm

this is from my laptop, connect to usb150 via wifi

also, the usb150 is connecting at 20MHz but as you can see from this, the main wifi router is using 40MHz

I don’t think 20MHz or 40MHz matters. When using repeater speed may be slow.

What you can do is to change channel on your main router and check if it can be improved.
