WAN Port Not Detecting Link on GL-MT3000 anymore

Hi GL.iNet support / Forum,

I’m having an issue with the WAN port on my GL-MT3000, firmware 4.6.2:

  • The WAN port (eth0, 2.5 GbE) used to work on the same router, but now it never detects a link, even when connected to the same upstream router it worked with before.

  • I’ve tested multiple Ethernet cables (all of which work on other routers), but the WAN port still doesn’t detect a link.

  • The LAN port (eth1, 1 GbE) is working perfectly, and I can get Internet over LAN or Wi-Fi.

  • I’ve also tried bringing eth0 down and back up (ip link set eth0 down / ip link set eth0 up).

  • ethtool eth0 always shows:

    Link detected: no

  • ethtool eth1 shows Link detected: yes with correct speed/duplex.

I haven’t performed a factory reset yet, and I prefer not to change any configuration.

I tried to reboot multiple times but it' isn’t helping. I haven’t used this router much maybe 2 or three times so I can’t believe it’s related to hardware.

Question:
Could this be a software/driver issue, or is the WAN port likely a hardware failure?
Are there any safe troubleshooting steps I can try before considering repair or replacement?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi

Based on your description, this does indeed sound like a hardware issue.
When not in use, was the MT3000 stored properly? Or was it simply left in a location where it wasn't being used?

Please try unplugging and replugging the Ethernet cable several times to break down the oxidation layer on the metal contacts of the ETH port and see if that helps.

It was kept in a safe place, in a protected case.

I tried unplugging it many times but sadly this doesn't help.

It is disappointing how only the WAN was damaged. I don't kno much about hardware but could it be repaired or better to be replaced?

If the device is still under warranty, please email our RMA team at [email protected].
They will assist further.
