WAN Port Speed Issue with Flint 2 Router

I am experiencing an issue with the WAN ports on my Flint 2 router. They are currently locked at 100 Mbps instead of the expected 1000 Mbps. I haven't changed any settings, except for upgrading to firmware version 4.7.4.

I have tried swapping the WAN ports, resetting firmware and downgraging firmware, but there has been no change in speed. I am confident that this is a problem with the Flint 2 router and not my other equipment, as I have tested other routers and achieved the full speed provided by my Internet Service Provider.

Thanks

Hello,

  1. Is it display the WAN 100Mbps in GL GUI -> Network -> Network Port management?
  2. What version was normal before? You can downgrade to that version of firmware to observe.

Please connect Flint 2 router to the WAN port with ISP modem, and SSH to the router:

  1. Check the "Link partner advertised link modes":
    ethtool eth1
  2. If the "Link partner advertised link modes" is supported the 1000Mbps, you can manually set the speed of the Flint 2 WAN to fix 1000Mbps:
ethtool -s eth1 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg off
  1. The link speed displayed in the GUI is 100 Mbps full duplex

  2. I was on the latest firmware. unsure which one that was before I upgraded to 4.7.4.

  3. Link speeds were available all the way out to 2500

  4. I tried this command, but it was still locked to 100 Mbps

After pulling my hair out, upgrading, downgrading, plugging in, unplugging, and rebooting, I ran a new cable from the ISP modem to the Flint 2. And lo and behold, I got the 1000Mbps link speed. All this is very strange because the original cable worked in another router, but not the Flint 2 and it happened all of a sudden, without any equipment changes

In summary, I now have 1000 Mbps full duplex on my WAN port, a new cable, and my router is fully updated. :joy:

Yes, very strange indeed.

If that cable worked in 1000Mbps before, it's strange that did not worked with Flint 2.

You were able to reproduce the issue again? Meaning, switching the cable again and getting the 100Mbps?

I switched back to the old cable, and sure enough, the negotiated speed was 100 Mbps on both the Flint 2 and the ISP modem. I tried turning on the ISP modem first and then the Flint 2, as well as the reverse order, but it still auto-negotiated at 100 Mbps.

I switched back to the new cable, but the port speed remained at 100 Mbps until I restarted both the modem and router, and then it returned to 1000 Mbps.

Happened to me too.
Stars aligned - changed my isp speed from 300 to 500 mb/s and updated 4.7.2 to 4.7.4 same evening.
My link to isp on 300 plan was solid 1000 for a ~year before and was ok for a day after the change, then flint2 couldnt negotiate 1000 link, only 100.

Spent next evening with isp changing ports, reconnecting wires and re-configuring/rebooting their hardware.

Something helped - its back to auto negotiated 1000.
Dont know what caused it, dont know what helped.

Hello,

The reasons why the maximum rate cannot be negotiated may be:

  1. Perhaps the speed negotiation compatibility between the 2 network ports is not very good.
  2. The quality of the network cable is not very good.
  3. The network port may have poor contact.

The reason maybe cannot find, but multiple re-plugged the cable, or replace the network cable may improve.
