I have a GL-MT300N-V2 mini router and I need to set it up so it will emulate my home network when I am using it elsewhere.
For that I am assuming it is the ‘repeater mode’ I need. Is that correct?

Can you explain how you want to do this?
I want the router to ‘see’ my home network wherever I am.
You need to install a vpn server in your home network. Some routers (e.g. GL.iNet routers has this function).
Then configure vpn client on your pc or another router so that you can connect to your home remotely.
