Wifi issues with mt300n v2

Hi all,
last week I received from amazon.it a new mt300n-v2.
I configured it to act as a bridge, to share the ext4 fs on a 64GB usb memory stick and to use the same usb dongle for transmission, which I installed as well.

Everything worked perfectly for a few days, but when I tried to play a movie on my tablet (the file is on the usb memory and it is shared via samba) the WiFi became unstable and keep disconnecting.

The WiFi is now always unstable, even if I’m only browsing the internet.

Here some logs from 192.168.8.1/luci/…/dmesg :

What I wonder is if I can fix it or if it is an hardware problem and I should change it soon since it is still in warranty.

Thanks a lot.

I had the same problem with the wifi failing under load.
I reflashed with the latest “clean” firmware and it was then very stable.
The clean version is probably good for your application anyway rather than the full factory version.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, I will try it as soon as possible: I have no way to connect to the ethernet port to configure the router now.

Meanwhile, do you have other “WiFi only” suggestions?

Which are the differences between the two firmware, apart for the packages?

I installed the last full v1 firmware and the last clean one (keeping the configuration), but I had no improvement.

The router is not able to connect to the access point anymore, even if it finds it and the access point is working for my tablet and mobile phone (android and windows phone respectively).

It looks like the issue described at
wifi disconnecting issue.

@Giotti Clean firmware only including basic package and luci package, and V1 firmware including GL GUI with more friendship interface.

Do you use wisp mode?

Yes, I was using it since it is the suggested one.

I returned the router, also because of the limits of the proprietary firmware of the WiFi.
I’m going to buy a different mini router model. Since my goals for it are:

  • to act as a bridge
  • to share the ext4 fs on a 64GB usb memory stick
  • to use the same usb dongle for transmission
  • to test the security of some WiFi network with tools such as kismet or aircrack-Ng

which model do you suggest?

I think you can try AR750.

Thank you for your suggestion.
Since for me one ethernet port would be enough, what do you think about ar300m-lite or ar150?

If you don’t want more performance and wireless speed limited to 150MB, I think AR150 is enough.
