Hi, I’ve noticed that with the 4.7.0 update on Flint AX1800 routers, NordVPN now slows down the connection significantly more than before. I have a 1Gb connection; under version 4.6.8 using WireGuard with NordVPN, speeds dropped to around 600 Mbps. However, with version 4.7.0 and the same configuration, speeds are now only reaching about 200 Mbps—even when using NordVPN’s new default option. This issue occurs on both of my Flint 1 AX1800 routers, regardless of whether I reboot them or switch servers.
I have exactly the same problem as you with the same values.
I am on Surfshark, in version 4.6.8 I was at 600 mps under vpn, then I fell to 200-300 Mps with the new version 4.7.0.
I am back to the old while waiting for solutions.
I remind you that I have the Flint AX 1800
Yes, it seems to be an issue specifically affecting the Flint1 AX1800 routers with the new 4.7.0 update, and I understand from what you're saying that it happens with all VPNs
what did you do, I went back to version 4.6.8, everything was fine for the whole day and now I've just turned my computer back on and I see that all the configuration has been reset to zero !!!!
Nothing for now, just waiting for GL.iNet to release a patch. I haven't wanted to downgrade because I figured something might go wrong, even though I have backups. I also don't know how to fix it, it could be many different factors causing the VPN traffic slowdown
the support department's response to our problem :
Hi ligace,
Thanks for your information and we tested with Surfshark and found that there is a speed difference. This is mainly due to we upgrade the Openwrt version in 4.7 and this new version uses a different firewall structure.
You can run the below command on SSH cell to boost up the speed, but it can't reach the original since the structure of firewall is different or you can downgrade to 4.68 by drag the old firmware from our download site and select "Without keep settings"
SSH to the Router - GL.iNet Router Docs 3
rm -f /etc/hotplug.d/net/40-no-gro
sync
reboot
GL.iNet download center | GL-AX1800 Flint
Personally I'm back to version 4.6.8
What they're telling you is strange because that script doesn't do anything right now, since gro is disabled by default: ethtool -k eth0 | grep group
rx-gro-hw: off [fixed]
So it seems we need to go to 4.6.8
Hi,
R&D are aware this issue and submitted the updates, will improve this issue in the next version firmware release.
If you need to work on v4.7.0 firmware and encountered a problem with rate drop, please SSH to the router:
rm -f /etc/hotplug.d/net/40-no-gro
sync
reboot
Thank you for your feedback.
I too noticed a speed drop on the AX1800 after updating, it was a surprise since this update brough packet acceleration which is supposed to make things faster. Do you have any idea as to when your R&D people expect to relese a patched update? I recall the last update before this one being back in September or October of 2024 so hopefully we don't have to wait that long, but we understand you're busy and its probably a difficult issue
Is this the recommend procedure on all 4.7.0 devices also Brume 2? Will this have any negative effect? or should be wait for next fw?
We have received a lot of feedback about this issue, I think will release a new firmware version asap.
This only affects the v4.7.0 firmware of the AX1800/AXT1800.
There is no effect on Brume (with any version).
