2 - GL-AXT1800 VPN connection

My company was just purchased, I went from being able to work from wherever I wanted to being tied to 2 IP addresses for logging into payroll. 1 at the corp office and the 2nd for my home IP address. I bought 2 GL-AXT1800 routers. I can't install any software on my computer.

How do I use the GL-AXT1800 routers for a point-to-point VPN when I don't have the ability to make adjustments on a remote Wifi network?

Scenario:

I take a trip to FL, stay at a hotel and connect to their wifi, the IP will be of the hotel. Is there a way I can turn on the GL-AXT1800 and use the Hotel's internet connection to the GL-AXT1800 but connect my laptop to the GL-AXT1800 and make it look like I am coming from my home IP address since I will be connected point-to-point to my home GL-AXT1800?

I tried to setup the GL-AXT1800 in repeater mode, but that didn't work.

TIA

Try this: Build your own WireGuard Home Server with two GL.iNet Routers - GL.iNet Router Docs 4

But there is the possibility, that the hotel wi-fi will block your VPN.

I might be missing something, but the only way I see this working is if I can connect a router to the internet. For instance, my cabin, I can put a router there and do a point-to-point VPN. All traffic would look like it was coming from my home vs my cabin.

But, if I don't have access to do so, bringing a router to a hotel lobby wouldn't do me any good because I don't have access to the internet through the router. When I put it in repeater mode, the VPN client area in the Gui disappears. So, the 2-router scenario is only good if I have access to the actual physical internet connection via an ethernet cable.

Set Network mode to "router" not extender.

Then start Wireguard to your own server, (which will need one TCP/UDP port accessible from the Internet)

If you have not such a public accessible IP address/port at home then you will need to use VPN services that offer the server/hub side of the VPN, and allow peer2peer A.K.A port forwarding. The server has a public IP and port, the clients (your GL.inet) may be buried deep into NATted hotel or home network, they just must be able to connect the server/hub on public Internet.

Services to look at are: Tailscale, Zerotier and maybe also the GL.inet service Astrowarp. Your home GL.inet configured as "exit host".

Usually you don't need to go into Repeater mode. You can just setup your router in a normal way, log into the Web UI and select "Connect" inside the Repeater tab:

The router will still be in normal networking mode. See: Repeater - GL.iNet Router Docs 4

In that mode you can use all features - even VPN client.

I couldn't get this to work, no matter what I did, there was no internet traffic through the router. After factory resetting the router, it worked.

I'm good to go now!

Thanks!
