Hello Team,
Could you please share the update timeline for the B3000 router?
So far, it has only received a 4.7 beta update (August 2025) and no stable release.
Is a 4.8 update planned in the near future?
Hello Team,
Could you please share the update timeline for the B3000 router?
So far, it has only received a 4.7 beta update (August 2025) and no stable release.
Is a 4.8 update planned in the near future?
Hi
I think the 4.8.x for B3000 in on plan, but not more information could be shared on this moment.
Thanks for the update @will.qiu.
I noticed that the GL-X2000 uses the same hardware platform as the B3000 and has already received the 4.7 stable update as well as the 4.8 beta. However, the B3000 still hasn’t received the 4.7 stable release. Is there a specific reason for this difference?
While the X2000 and B3000 are built on the same hardware platform, they target different use cases. The X2000 includes a cellular module and is designed as a cellular router, whereas the B3000 is positioned as a home router.
Because of this, development resources and validation testing are handled separately, which can result in different firmware release timelines.
Please rest assured that the B3000 will continue to receive firmware updates. At this stage, the plan is to skip stable version 4.7 and proceed directly to a stable 4.8 release.
Is there any indication of stable 4.8 release date? I’m running router for Mum 12K miles away over Tailscale and I’m a bit apprehensive doing a remote install of beta software… The features in 4.5 seem far behind what’s available in 4.8.
Many thanks.
At the moment, there is still no specific timeline for releasing v4.8 for the B3000.
In addition, since the upgrade from v4.5 to v4.8 will be a major update, we strongly recommend performing the upgrade while you are physically near the router rather than remotely via Tailscale, in order to avoid potential issues.
Thanks @will.qiu
Hmm, I’m not sure I know what to do about that - I was going to ask, ‘would the update pull in installed apps?’ But, I suspect I know that answer - anyway, it would be helpful to have confirmation. Thanks.
The applications provided by GL.iNet will be retained during upgrades.
But the third-party plugins that have been installed manually will not be retained.
This is to avoid conflicts caused by updates to system components that third-party plugins may depend on, which could otherwise lead to issues or even prevent the system from booting.
That’s very interesting - thank you @will.qiu
So, if I install Tailscale via the GL-iNet menu ‘Admin Panel > Applications > Tailscale’ then that and its config should be preserved during upgrade. However, a further question - if that Tailscale is subsequently upgrade by Admonstrator’s script, then how likely is it that a GL-iNet upgrade of the router will upgrade/ preserve that Tailscale and its config?
Well yes, and no…
Because it was not officially supported by GL.iNet and could lead to issues, I said ‘N’. So, I chose to not make the installation persistent over firmware upgrades - thank you for the reminder.
And so, I must assume that install will not be persistent.
That, however, leads to a further question - or two…
1/ You imply the official GL.iNet install of Tailscale app and its config will be preserved across upgrades, can you confirm?
2/ The Admonstrator’s script provides the option to revert to the official GL.iNet install of Tailscale - so, if I revert, then the install and config should be preserved?
Many thanks
Reverting is done by deleting the new Tailscale binary and recovering the one from the firmware image. During my tests it worked flawlessly, and even the Tailscale connection (with the same config) worked.
However, this is some kind of hack, so in the worst case resetting the router might be necessary, depending on your config.
During a firmware upgrade, the config will be kept, but the binary does not. So upgrading the firmware (after updating Tailscale) will downgrade Tailscale to the GL binary. My "permanent" feature will add the binary to be kept during upgrade as well.
Real issues are unlikely; the script is highly tested and used by many people around the globe each month. Last month approx. 1100 people used the script.
Very many thanks @admon for a v comprehensive reply ![]()
Any updates regarding the 4.8 release? Opal recently received beta builds, but Marble’s last stable update was in April last year and there have been no beta builds since August ’25. Just wondering if Marble firmware is still being actively maintained.
Hi
No worries — v4.8 for the B3000 is still in the plan.
At the moment, we’re busy rolling out v4.8 for the current batch of devices, and it’s nearly finished. From what I can see, it has basically entered release-stage testing.
The B3000 is planned for the next batch.
Hi @will.qiu
It has been another two months without any updates or news regarding the Marble B3000, while the 4.9 beta has already been released for several other devices.
Could you please share any information on whether, and when, the B3000 is expected to receive an update?
I purchased this model with confidence in GL.iNet’s commitment to providing ongoing software updates and new features.
I understand that update schedules can vary between models, but at this point it feels like the B3000 has been overlooked.
Hi
During the v4.8 release for the previous batch of devices, we encountered some issues, such as Wi-Fi power problems on the Opal, and it will take some time to fix them, re-test and release.
The firmware update for the B3000 is still planned, but there is currently no timeline available yet.
We appreciate your understanding and patience.
