Just got my new Flint 3 and it upgraded to 4.9.0 and I was eager to use the parental control for my children, at first look it seems quite nice but looking at it, feels quite a small step back regarding the schedules, as for example we want to block just YouTube to be available during specific range of time, not kill all Internet of the tablet. That was one of the reasons I rolled back to 4.8.3 which gives us that exact control. Wondering if in future releases this feature will be back?
Another reason was it seems that the parental control (controlled by adguard) doesn’t play nice with ipv6 as it uses the ip address instead of the device Mac. The only way is really using adguard as dhcp server?
Looking to hear from those that are using parental control with schedules and v6.
We will discuss with the product team whether it would be possible to restore this feature in a future release.
Do you mean that you are using AdGuard Home for parental control purposes, but are encountering issues because clients are identified by IP address rather than MAC address?
If so, there does not appear to be a good solution at the moment other than disabling dnsmasq and configuring AdGuard Home as the DHCP server.
However, this setup also has some limitations with IPv6 support. In particular, it currently supports only statically configured IPv6 ranges, rather than dynamically obtaining and distributing IPv6 prefix delegations (PD) from the ISP.
It may be better to either disable IPv6 entirely, or try disabling IPv6 DNS advertisements on the LAN interface under LuCI → Network → Interfaces and see if that helps with your use case.
