A1300 - Did hard reset, trying to set initial password and received error - ""Unknown error occurred. Please check the network environment or reboot the device"

Thanks for your test.

You can also set a simple password first to enter the GL GUI, and reset a strong password in SYSTEM > Security > Admin Password.

Having the exact same issue on my A1300. I couldn’t access the portal anymore so eventually I did a hard reset and I managed to open the portal at http://192.168.8.1/ where it asks to enter a new password, after clicking “apply” I get an error message “Unknown error occurred. Please check the network environment or reboot the device”. I tried on different browsers, two different laptops, even on my phone. Same issue, just doesn’t work anymore suddenly. What am I supposed to do ?

Are there some special characters in your password setup?
If yes, please temporarily set your password using letters and numbers.

We have noticed this issue and truly sorry, will fix it in a future release.

Having the same problem. Restricting it to numbers and mixed-case lette4rs works around the issue. Did someone not properly de-web-escape and then re-escape the passwords? It sounds like someone’s trying to set them via a command line interface instead of doing the proper call.

Sorry, this issue occurred in the frontend during initialization and was not caught by the backend during review.

Please first set the initial password using only digits and letters (upper- and lower-case). After completing that, then change password that includes special characters on GL GUI > SYSTEM > Security.

Hi @bruce! Do you have any ETA about new firmware release for Slate Plus? As I understand was made choice to skip 4.7 firmware in favour of 4.8 ? If yes than this firmware also receive last change with AmneziaWG support?

Hello,

We sincerely apologize, but it appears that the Slate Plus will not be receiving the 4.8 update, since the hardware resources are insufficient to support the new features included in this version.
Slate Plus still receives security updates.

Consequently, AmneziaWG cannot be supported/pre-installed in the firmware. But you may attempt to install AmneziaWG manually via the plugins.

What about 4.7 beta? Can we expect this version with full feature set for 4.7 as LTS for this router ?

Hi,

We apologize, but we do not have plans to support Amnezia WG in the v4.7 beta.

Since GL router firmware provides full SSH access, you can try to install this plugins manually.

Hi Bruce! I mean can we expect stable 4.7 firmware with full feature set for this firmware - it is not about back porting feature from 4.8. For now we have 4.7 beta only. So can we expect 4.7 as LTS version for Slate Plus ?

Hi,

The v4.7.2 of Slate Plus includes the latest feature sets and optimizations. Based on community feedback, it has reached a very stable state for daily use.
The v4.5.x of Slate Plus remains our primary long-term maintenance branch, where we will continue to provide essential security updates.

While 4.7 will likely stay in the Beta channel, it represents the most feature-rich experience we can offer for this hardware. If stability is your absolute priority, staying with the 4.5 series is a solid choice, but for the full 4.7 experience, v4.7.2 is good choice.

Hi Bruce! Thanks for clarification. So we can’t expect any updates for 4.7 firmware branch with security updates ?do we have any change to get as LTS firmware with more features then 4.5. Can it be beta with less frequent updates then LTS 4.5 ? I hope we have chance to re-evaluate by Gl.iNet team choice for long term support as this router still sales as a SFT1200 , but last one got 4.8 beta. It really sad to have more modern travel router (2022) by year production with less feature set support than older one SFT1200 (2021)

Created a login just to say this is what worked for me… Setup initial 12345 password from laptop browser to http://192.160.8.1, which promptly hung on the configuring screen. Installed the app on my android phone, connected through the app using the password set via laptop. Updated password using the phone app, set as a repeater for my local WiFi and installed firmware update. From the laptop I was then able to connect to the admin console using the IP address assigned to the A1300 by my WiFi DNS.
