About DLNA

I installed MiniDLNA on the XE300. However, I noticed that music files on my SD card are not being detected by DLNA-supported music player apps. Do I need to make any additional settings?

This is very generic.

What file did you try? It is easy to use free cc tracks from a public available file.
For example pornophonique - 8-bit lagerfeuer : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive as MP3 VBR. Should work with most audio renderer.

Than maybe tell is which renderer. Because the are not all the same. I am using "Bubble UPNP" mostly to test.

I have my own music files in formats such as MP3, WAV, and FLAC.

This is great. But still no information someone here can use.

How should I test if it works, when I have my files and you have yours, and mine works.

Ah, okay, mine works. Case closed.
(Btw, I have also the above mentioned in my playlist).

So, I am home tonight, so I've tested.

The DLNA implementation is for sure not comparable with a NAS. It is a nice addon. The Linux MiniDLNA service got some hickups, when I loaded files with special characters in path- or filename.

So I took any USB thumb drive with some music I had lay around. I plugged it to my spare Slate AX.
In 'Application - Network Storage' I see the drive is mounded. Just activate the switch 'Enable DNLA' ... and what client?

I've had a very long drive, I am too lazy to search for a spare phone. so I checked and the player 'Rhythmbox' at my Linux is able to speak DLNA. Just activated the plugin 'Grilo media browser'. it is named 'Tracker3', but all my music from the thumbdrive is available.
maybe it is worth to mention the client loads only 1000 tracks. Just click 'get more title' and the next 1000 follows, repeat.

7557 tracks at 4GB thumbdrive ... No problem.
It is from a car media system, so it is FAT formatted. In production I'd recommend exFAT, NTFS or Fat32.

So, it still works. I almost had no doing for get it working.

Update:
I disabled the DLNA service, and enabled again. It takes a few seconds and two 'GL-axt1800 DLNA Server' appears. After a few path modifications I got 16 'GL-axt1800 ... servers and only the last 2 where available. But i think this is more an issue of the Rhythmbox player.

I closed the player and started. One entry in server list, everything is fine.
I need to find what 'tracker3' is. As this device contains very similar tracks to my car-music-stick.

Now I have a stick with 434 tracks, different mp3 variations (96-256KHz, VBR and CBR, Stereo to 7.1). I haven tested them all, but some files I know that are exotic. Still works fine.
