I have two Flint 2, one as a router that works perfectly, but I want to set the second one as a "dumb" Access Point.
I tried setting the Access Point mode and I don't get internet connection over ethernet, didn't try using wifi.
I've tried different firmwares from GL iNet, the 4.7.0, 4.6.6-op24 and the one that came installed. I've also tried doing it manually installing OpenWRT directly and doing the bridge tutorial from their wiki and still not working.
I've some success, out of all the times I've tried, I managed to make it work over ethernet, giving a strong connection and speed, but then I tried it over wireless and it wasn't working, both times that this happened was not using the "AP Mode" from GL, but one was using OpenWRT 24.10 and the other was with v4.7.0 from GL iNet... same issue both times, ethernet working, not the wireless, when I mean not working, I was able to connect to the router wirelessly, but I wasn't able to navigate to any website, I was able to log in to the settings of the AP, but the settings for the main router was unreachable and pinging it I was getting timed out responses.
Basically, I need to set this secondary router as wired and wireless Access Point and I need help
The Primary router has no problem, here does not need to config.
If the Secondary router as the default mode (that is router mode), and connects to the Primary router, does it work?
Depends on your demand: The Secondary router, change to AP mode, and the wired network cable from Primary router LAN to Secondary WAN, does it work?
Now login the Primary router GL GUI > Client, check the primary router IP, which can access the Secondary router GL GUI to config something.
If the Secondary router network unreachable, please SSH to the Secondary router:
Secondary router runing in AP mode, wan port to primary router, lan1 or wifi to laptop = all pings from laptop timed out
Secondary router runing in AP mode, lan1 port to primary router, lan2 or wifi to laptop = all pings from laptop timed out
Secondary router running as router, wan to primary router, lan1 or wifi to laptop = no problem, everything works.
Basically what I want is that the secondary router connects to the primary router (hopefully using the 2.5ghz ports) and act as a wifi extender and a switch to connect my desktop PC (on the second 2.5ghz port).
If the Secondary router in Router mode and it works, means there is no problem with the hardware, including network cable and interface I assume.
Secondary router is in AP mode, with any port WAN or LAN to primary router, no luck, this is a strange point. Generally speaking, this is impossible, and this mode and configuration are very simple.
After the Secondary router is connected to the network cable to Primary router, do you see the IP of the Secondary router in the client list of the Primary router?
BTW, did you try to reset the Second router and test again?
I was able to get this issue resolved, after 3 days of resets and tries and errors.
The issue is that basically the secondary router didn't like being AP, being older, he was wondering why he had to be the dumb one....
So, I set it up as primary from scratch copying the config of the settings from the one working as primary (not uploading the backup) and then I reset the one that was primary and activated the AP mode on it and it worked perfectly...
Maybe there is a hardware issue in there that didn't want to cooperate as AP, but now it is working. Still frustrating knowing that I tried so many times in so many different ways and it is a hardware issue.
