No it needs to be in repeater/router mode to run any VPN functions.
Thanks, In repeater mode Mudi will mask/hide the home router IP address ? And I have another question: since is in Access Point mode I cannot access its admin panel because https://192.168.8.1 won t load anymore. How can I access the admin panel again so I can switch to repeater mode?
router mode does not hide the IP of the home router, but hides and protects Mudi's own client, that is the client connected to Mudi cannot be access from the home router.
If in the Access Point mode, you need to go to the Primary router to learn about Mudi's IP and access the Mudi GL GUI through this new IP.
Thanks. I will try
Now I don t understand if Extender means Repeater . I haven't seen any "repeater" in my Network Mode, only router, extender and something else. In extender mode can be used the VPN feature? Extend the network from the home router and in between use the VPN feature to mask/hide online the IP of the house router
How can I actually use the VPN feature while getting internet from the home router? as I don t have a SIM available at the moment to insert it in to Mudi, as I usually did in the past?
Repeater is a bit of a red herring.
Best way to think of it:
Wired or WiFi connection
Router
Creates its own subnet from the primary network
Wired connection
Access Point
Shares the same subnet as the primary router
WiFi connection
Extender
Shares the same subnet as the primary router
These modes should cover most requirements.
I understood AP and Extender won't help my plan to use the home (hotel room) router's internet in connection with Mudi so I can use the VPN feature of Mudi, but the Mudi's network mode called router will? Can I connect my PC to Mudi and use Mudi's VPN installed on it while getting network from the home router?Mudi being a bridge between my PC and the home router while being able to connect to the internet via Mudi's VPN . Thanks
If I understand what you're asking , then yes, that's correct. You connect your PC to the Mudi and the Mudi in router mode to the "source router" and the Mudi will handle the VPN client function.
When I'm travelling I use one of my Gl.Inet routers to connect to the hotel WiFi in router mode. This gives me a level of security whereby, the devices attached to my Gl.Inet router cannot be seen from other devices on the public WiFi because the are on a different subnet and firewalled.
As an additional level of protection I then run the VPN on my Gl.Inet router to encapsutate my data for security and also to get around geoblocking of the (I have another Gl.Inet router at home working as a Wire guard server).
Does this help?
I did it!I asked grok to read this thread and explain to me step by step what must I do in to Mud's admin panel like to a 5 year's old in order to stop nagging you and it worked. I only had to switch from LAN to WAN .I also semi-understand your last reply.. "another Gl.Inet router at home working as a Wire guard server" it is for me crossing in to science fiction. I will ask grok to translate in to kindergarten terminology . Thanks a lot man.
