Hello guys,
I dont think anyone asked until now about this topic. Is anything planned for AI in future ? Things as intrusion detection, cloud antivirus ai based , etc.
Hello guys,

I doubt we’ll see AI integrated into the router itself, though I’d guess it may be possible to create some kind of cloud service that can be utilized like current DNS ad blockers use.
But as a ‘Boomer’, I say that the less AI intrusion the better lol. I know there’s good potential in it, but right now it feels like everyone is just pushing it in our faces looking to solve problems that don’t exist. And I don’t trust it as long as it tells you to put rocks in your muffin recipes to make them more crunchy. Or until they solve the problems of ‘AI hallucinations’ (really!)
Ai is helpful but also will be destructive. depend how will be used but we must not be left behind. Hacker getting smarter.

I think Glinet's goal is to have devices with a very simple environment and geared toward mobility. Not complex devices with countless additional features. no?
Agreed. Otherwise people ought to just use straight vanilla Openwrt. The Luci makes Openwrt a bit easier, but many things require command line scripting to accomplish. I don’t think the average home user wants to deal with that - they want graphics, icons and pretty colors.
Personally, I find the GL firmware to strike a good balance between ease of use and more advanced functionality.
Hmm i'm not that super fan of AI, but if they do a attempt they need to do it good...
And i mean with that, that they don't create something beyond a administrative task and things still need examination and consent of the administrator, rather than things get too automated against the frustration of a user.
I have seen this frustration already on windows 11 when drivers get automated, when sometimes it happens the whql driver is wrong and old and causes headaces or even bsods.
When writing unsigned software a AV uses AI type detections including checking against certs as heuristics, and instantly lockdown a pc, lol i have been there very annoying.
this are just a few examples AI type features can go too far, tampering with whos on control.
if they want something close like a IDS type of system they need a more powerfull product, the issue however is if you take snort or suricata for example they can take a while to configure properly for not being too intrusive, if you go with only banning ips like fail2ban/banip also that can go terrible wrong since some listings add with malicious intend legitable sites to it.
My opinion is that such securities sound good and all, but maybe it is better to fight malware type attacks on their way of deploying methods, in windows you can have vbs like scripts as js extension, so why not turn the default program to notepad?, turnoff wscript.
Then a AV becomes your last resort, and your first line is strong bounded policies like notepad and software restriction policies on things like %temp% etc, and not using the root/admin account, and you can have simple dns blocking.
I think AI is more of a technobabble than something i would like to trust, the issue is still the user imho.
True. I'm new to Gl.inet and OpenWRT. I usually work with PaloAlto, Cisco, Fortinet... and I chose these devices (Beryl AX and Slate AX) for simplicity. If I'm traveling, I want something simple. Four clicks. User-friendly. I'm still exploring the possibilities (I see a lot can be done from LuCi or the console). But my idea is to keep it simple.
