Am I correct that a version of Astrowarp called Astrowarp + runs on higher end routers and uses obfuscation so that the VPN traffic does not appear as encrypted and which prevents anyone with sophisticated network tools from identifying the traffic as belonging to a VPN?
I assume there's some kind of misunderstanding?
Astrowarp Plus is just a package with some additional features:
Traffic will always appear as encrypted because it is. And all modern devices will recognize unrecognizable traffic as encrypted.
Or traffic that looks valid but is weird.
Afaik WireGuard is the base of AstroWarp.
Hi Admon,
I’m curious about your bona fides as someone qualified to respond on behalf of Astrowarp? Perhaps you’ve explained this somewhere else in this forum, but your comment that “As far as I know” Wireguard is the base of Astrowarp is a pretty big “assumption” because it is stated widely on their site and in this forum that it is.
Are you familiar with every version of Astrowarp running on every router?
WireGuard is the base. But since I am not a developer nor work for GL, I can't make official statements; that's why I prefer AFAIK in my communication.
If there is no magical (and only a few people are aware of) version: Yes.

Hi,
Below is a pasted copied of an email I received from Bernard Lo of GL-inet tech support saying that Astrowarp Plus “is using an obfuscation VPN”.
Would someone who is fully knowledgeable about the Astrowarp product line in general and of the implementation of “obfuscation” in particular please explain what Bernard meant when he made this statement as it seems to contradict other comments from GL-inet tech support that I’ve read in this forum.
Hi R
Yes. Astrowarp Plus is using an obfuscation VPN. It is a wise choice to do that.
Best Regards

I think I’m going to return the ax1800 and act1800 I just bought from Amazon and buy the be3600 and be9300 because I was told that in the next ASTROWARP release that network traffic won’t be encrypted and cannot be identified as VPN traffic by an employer’s IT department.
Does that make sense?
As I said before, there might be a newer version I am not aware of. It could be.
Let me ping @bruce so he might be able to help you or will find someone who is able to.
Yes, we recently released a new Astrowarp SDK, which migrates the underlying protocol from WireGuard to AmneziaWG to improve usability in regions with stricter network restrictions.
It is currently available on BE3600 4.8.3 and BE9300 4.8.4.
Support for other models will be rolled out with future firmware updates, likely in Q2.
