According to another post here, the automatic updates feature was removed with a previous firmware version (Turn off automatic firmware update! - #9 by yuxin.zou). Are there any plans to reintroduce this feature? It’s important to me to have all the latest security fixes and patches as soon as possible without having to use the admin UI.
I never want automatic updates on any hardware and any software that I own.
Please make sure users can select whether or not they want automatic updates, so I can make sure it is turned off.
I do not work for and I do not have formal association with GL.iNet
Sorry, there are no plans to migrate this feature yet.
Ok, thanks. In that case, is there an easy way to be notified when an update is released?
We’re discussing it, and for now, it might be better to add browser notifications to the download center web.
You can also add notifications in the GL.iNet mobile app.
@yuxin.zou It's been almost a year, and I haven't heard about any updates to this. Are there still plans to implement a notification system?
HTML5 Notifications have two limitations that we haven't come up with a solution for.
Firstly, users must access the Web page using an https URL to enable notifications. Second, the web page cannot be closed when the user needs to receive a message.
It doesn't look very useful for now.
Have RSS feeds, email notifications, or push notifications via the mobile app been considered?
We are developing push notifications via the mobile app.
