The router is connected to local hosts over ethernet ports and over WIFI. Some of the servers on the network are VMs which are connect to the network over bridged interface and get IP address allocated by AX1800. So far so good. These VMs are not shown on the list of clients. The case in question is a VM run on the laptop which is connected to AX1800 over WIFI. As said the VM gets its address allocated but it does not get the to be seen on the list of clients.
There are some other posts relating to this but none seem to be the same.
The SW version is: 4.6.8
Coud you try ping this IP address from the router, or ping the router's IP address from the server?
Would it then show up in the client list?
Ping from the VM towards the router works just as the ping from the diagnostic panel in advanced towards the VM works too. The client list is not updated with this VM. I waited a few minutes and also did refresh the page. It does not show up.
Edit: I did find it in advanced mode on the list of DHCP leases so it is visible for the router (obviously as the lease was given to the VM).
Generally the client list shall get the traffic data, which means if the ping(here act as the traffic data) is ok from router and your VM, it shall be shown up in the client list.
Could you try to found if any abnormal, maybe other devices in the client list or dhcp lease list?
Not no sure if it would change the mac address during the forwarding, causing the router thought your VM as another device already in the list.
The only devices I cannot see on the list are the VMs from the machine connected over the WiFi.
I may try to run some VMs on the machines connecting over the ethernet and see how that works although I am not sure why it would matter.
Note: when I used plural for VMs above I meant it - I run many VMs (just not all the time) and I do not see them anywhere except in advanced mode on the DNS lease list. In the standard UI I see them neither on the client list not on the list from which I select the machines for the static lease setup.
Edit: I added static lease to these machines through the Network/LAN/Address Reservation and I can see that they are marked static in luci/admin/status/overview so it all works well just the list is not updated.
