AXT-1800 burning hot without internet

Hi,

It’s my first time posting here but I’ve been a long time lurker.

I just got home today to find my laptop with no internet connection even though connected to my Slate AX via Wifi. I’ve checked the router and the first thing I’ve noticed was that it was burning hot. I’ve unplugged it, let it cool down for a while and plugged it back in. My laptop immediately reconnected and the internet connectivity recovered. This is the first time something like this has happened as I’ve been using this router for 2 years without issues. Is there anything I should look out for?

Some background info:

The firmware version is 4.6.11. I did not keep settings and did a factory reset after install, so everything should be clean. I have it running 24/7 at home (it’s my home network) and it has always-on VPN (ProtonVPN, WG protocol) with global kill-switch active. It’s connected via cable (DHCP) to a bigger router that does the IPOE stuff. That’s it. My use case is pretty basic.

The Slate AX indeed is a little hot when working, but it is normal behavior.

How hot is it? You can learn from the System > Overview of GL GUI.

If worried about that, you can lower the fan starting temperature and observe whether the fan is normal when the current temperature over set temperature.

Maybe also that the router system has not been restarted for a long time? If possible, restart it once a month.
