Hello. After updating firmware to 4.6.4 on AXT 1800 (Slate Ax), Firewall Tab disappeared once the router updated. I can see it installed in Luci through advanced menu and can manage it there but it's not showing on the front end GUI.
It was moved to System > Security
Anyways, doesn't matter. Just like adguard home problems, I don't expect it to function. I'll just return it
What exactly do you want to change in firewall? Open ports?
Setup rules to block certain IP addresses, certain ports and routing rules for specific devices. Such as VPN bypass based on mac devices.
I appreciate the answer but I'm returning it, as AdGuard Home simply doesn't work or when it does it slows down the whole system. This is unacceptable
What are your issues here exactly? AGH should be working fine.
When enabling AGH system freezes, becomes unresponsive and AGH struggles to work. Whole network crashes, I also run WG parallel to AGH. This isn't a single issue, after doing the research, it seems that device is just not able to handle both WG and AGH in parallel. Half baked solution is to extend the memory through swap, which I've done, as there are dozens of people who had this issue, and swapped solved it partially. So far the solution was to TLS to the upstream DNS server which manages my blocking preferencea, however, again, that's half baked solution.
There is an argument "it's AGH's problem and not ours" that some of GL Inet employees expressed, but if you offer a product, make sure it works as customers are paying for things to work. With this much hassle to try and get things to work, my suggestion for anyone who might find this post in the future, is to return this product if you plan to do anything more advanced than Repeater mode and VPN.
My solution is to buy current N100 mini PC, install OpenWRT on it and make things work as they should. This eliminates the weak hardware and awful implementation of AGH on AXT1800 which freezes the whole system. Since I am forced to use Lucy CLI even on this device, I might as well do it on more powerful hardware.
PC in the picture, cost me 140€ which comes with N200, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD with TDP of 6W. That's the problem I have with this product, if the price difference is 20€ and I still have to do things hard way, I'm doing it on my own terms.
Sorry if I sound frustrated, it is because I am, but it is not at you. I am simply pissed at GL Inet and their non existing support
Of course will an Intel NUC be better than any embedded device, no wondering here.
But I wonder about the AGH issue. Did you do any troubleshooting like firing up htop
while the device becomes slower and slower? Normally, the AXT1800 should work fine with AGH. Did you use multiple big anti-ad lists?
I've tried to reset firmware, reset router and have tried to start htop but the problem is that system becomes completely unresponsive and logs simply so not occur.
Procedure Conducted as follows:
Enable AdGuard Home
Open New Window
Switch to port IP/: 3000 (AGH homepage)
Main Window on AXT1800 becomes unresponsive with errors to check the connection or reboot the system
At the same time, AGH becomes unresponsive.
Solution: reboot rouuter and quickly log in and disable AGH before VPN and AGH start up.
I have tried option to run DHCP on AGH to resolve clients, same thing.
If tried to log events with CLI, system becomes unresponsive still.
Only thing that allowed AGH to run for few hours was plugging in USB into port, go to Lucy-system-expand (Mount) storage, mount USB as swap and allow it to run like that.
For blocking in running several lists (6 in total)
Hm, could be an issue with too big lists, can't tell now.
All in all AGH should work. But GL is right: AGH is a 3rd party plugin and they can't really help with it.
I agree with that statement, however, it becomes an advertisement issue or shall we call it a LIE at this point. Since it should work out of the box with all the mentioned features... It doesn't, so they lied.
I vote with my wallet, so to say, and right now I say this product is subpar and not worth the money. Intel powered device for the same price will do more, be more efficient at doing it and is more capable of doing the same thing.
Again, your help is greatly appreckated. My hat is off to you sir
Thanks!
Hope that a future GL product might be more suitable for your case (or at least it does what you think it should do - and what was advertised somehow)
Unfortunately my problem solving addiction took the best of me. Here's update for anyone who sees this
Nuked the firmware and force erased everything off the router through luci. Booted into bootloader mode and installed new firmware through upload directly into the router.
ADH works perfectly now (even though I still left Mount Storage just in case), VPN drops stopped happening.
Just heads up, first boot after the flash takes a while, mine took about 5-6 min.
