B1300 won't tether a Samsung S8

I have a B1300 running firmware 3.212 and I’d like to use a Samsung S8 to tether.

I have used this same phone with an AR-750S Slate router and it works.

I can connect a Pixel 2 with this cable and the B1300 sees it as a tether.
I can connect a Samsung S22 and it also shows up as a tether.

I have tried other USB cables and no others have worked with the S8 and the B1300.

If all other devices work, except the S8, it’s likely an issue with your samsung device. Have you turned on USB Tethering?

You perhaps missed the point where I said the S8 and the cables DO WORK when I tether to an AR-750S router. And I also tested the S8 directly to a Windows PC and it tethers ok.

Sorry, you said “used” in past tense, so I thought that had been a while.

Very odd indeed then, do you have iPV6 enabled on your router?

Would IPv6 matter even before it shows up as a tether device?

I just checked and IPv6 was not enabled. I’ve enabled it, rebooted and it made no difference, still doesn’t show up in the UI for tethering.

Honestly I don’t know, I do recall some issues where it wouldn’t provide internet when iPV6 was disabled. It’s always worth a try🤷‍♂️

But that’s not the problem I’m having. It’s not even getting to that point. I could understand where routing with a carrier would or wouldn’t need IPv6. But I’m not even getting anywhere near to the point where routing would come into play, v6 or otherwise.

This is data from when I have a Samsung S22 connected, which IS seen for tethering (same USB cable).

Note the presence of the rndis_host driver info. I’ve no idea how that fits into the equation, but is the most noticeable difference right off the bat…

And this is the output for it from: cat /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices

And this is a disconnect/reconnect of the S22 from logread -f

Afraid I can’t find it either.

Hopefully @alzhao will be back tomorrow, I’m sure they’ll be able to help you out!

Actually something I did see (I never use tethering, sorry if I’m wrong), the router seems to recognize the S8 as USB1-1, and the S22 and USB2-1

Do you have drivers installed for USB1?

I will check, which package would be including it? I have these installed (searching on usb)

root@GL-B1300:~# opkg list |grep usb

These being the same 33 packages listed as available from opkg. Is there something else specific for usb1?

and it seems like openwrt is down right now, anyone else notice this? fortunately the internet archive has those pages: [OpenWrt Wiki] Installing and troubleshooting USB Drivers
