Bery AX Periodically Unresponsive on Hotel Internet

While using the Beryl AX in repeater mode on hotel wifi (Hyatt), at random times (10-30min), I’ll lose internet and the router becomes completely unresponsive:

  • No internet
  • DHCP renewal fails
  • Even if I set manual IP / Subnet in the LAN range, ping times out, and ssh fails
  • White indicator light blinking

The router subnet is the default 192.168.8.1/24 while the hotel subnet is 172.20.0.1/16, so I don’t think there’s a route collision.

The router doesn’t recover until I restart. I only run AdGuardHome and WireGuard on the router, and I’ve tried turning both of those off but still the same issue. Attached is syslog collected after restarting the router. Strangely, I actually restarted the router at ~23:40, so it’s weird the boot log start at 23:31 (unless the clock was off until some point in the boot sequence?).

Anyone have thoughts on how to troubleshoot?

Hello,

  1. What is the current firmware version? If it is not v4.8.1 or v4.8.2-op24, please upgrade to the latest firmware. In addition, if router is using the v4.8.1 firmware, please also install the v4.8.2-op24 firmware to check again.

  2. Is the repeater connection stable if router disable WireGuard client, ADG, and only enable repeater to connect to Hyatt WiFi?

  3. The syslog you provided does not find the repeater disconnect info (like, interface down or DHCP renew failed, etc), but it seems that the Internet fail at 23:43:20 as the ADG DNS reports timeout.

Please let the router tethering to your mobile phone, or Ethernet cable to the network port of hotel wall, to provide a stable Internet connection, and share the router with us through GoodCloud, we would like remote check your router when the issue reproduced.

Please let me know the router MAC address and Admin Panel password in PM.

The firmware version was 4.8.1. The connection was not stable when disabling WireGuard client and ADG.

I ended up doing a firmware reset and have not encountered problems since. So unfortunately I will not be able to collect more logs.

My suspicion is somehow the repeater disconnect/reconnect caused the firewall rules to block connections to the router.
