I own the original Beryl (MT-1300) and when it was first launched on the V3 firmware it came with more features than the current V4 firmware. As a result some people have either re-installed the package on V4 or simply reverted / stayed on the V3 firmware.
My question is, with the discovery of the vulnerabilities on current firmware is the legacy also vulnerable or has it been patched?
Basing my information on this page:
The affected firmware states: V4.3.11 and earlier
Resolved firmware: V4.3.17
So was the V3 firmware ever effected for the beryl? Judging by the wording of "and earlier" would seem to suggest it was, unless it's only applicable to the V4.x.x builds. If V3 is vulnerable then why isn't there a resolved legacy firmware too?
If I look at the other models I can see that some were affected on build: V3.216 and earlier which would suggest the older Beryl firmware could also be vulnerable.
Again, the main reason to stick with V3 is to have the features the product was sold as having and also another thread suggests the performance was better on the legacy builds.
The thing is, when I & many others purchased the original Beryl it included many features which have since been removed when upgrading to V4
The product page:
Still states the following: Tor Service Pre-installed, it also mentions about the storage capabilities however the software side has also been removed.
I have see threads on here and replies by the official Devs saying you can re-install them, if so then why isn't there a V4 release with these pre-installed?
My guess is, you can install them however your device might be unstable...in that case the V3 firmware should be the current stable release should it? Hence me asking about the vulnerability fixes.
I just don't like the fact it was sold as having features which have subsequently been revoked, that's all.
