Beryl Won't Let Me Add New WiFI Network

Hi

I have a Beryl router I bought from Amazon.co.uk. The unit had firmware dated December 2021 on it. I’m using the device to share a WiFi internet connection to multiple other devices in router/NAT mode. I want to use the device when I travel between 2 offices with 2 different SSIDs (that are both on 2.4 & 5Ghz). Both offices use the same WiFi hardware. I’ve added the first office SSID and I can use the the router at office 1 ok. However at office 2, which Beryl can see the SSID on both WiFi bands, but on entering the PSK it won’t connect. I receive no error messages, I just click join, get a spinning icon and then the join button becomes available. This occurs if I try and add either WiFi bands. Both locations/SSIDs are WPA2/AES with PSKs.

I downloaded the latest beta build of the software, dated
2022-03-01 16:18:01. I’ve installed this firmware but the issue is the same. I’ve even tried to use the same PSK at office 1 and office 2 (by aligning their PSKs) but the issue is the same.

Could you assist please? Other devices can connect at both offices ok to the same SSID. I’ve not tried a factory reset yet as I have a large number of statically assigned IPs that I can’t see how I would backup to restore to a wiped router. When I connect to the router via ssh the version displayed is: OpenWrt 19.07.8, r11364-ef56c85848. The output of log is shown below from when I click join at location 2:

Can you try the snapshot GL.iNet download center

We have some further update around May 16th.

Hi

Thanks for your help.

I’ve tried the snapshot but the issue is exactly the same. I’m unable to add any new WiFI SSIDs at all. I’ve now tried a couple of other APs and I can’t add any of them on Beryl. This means the Beryl unit is useless to me me now as it will only work with one SSID that I can’t change.

Should I return the item to Amazon or do you have any other suggestions? I can’t wait 2 months for a potential fix, I need a working system now.

Thanks

Andy

At this point, you can try doing a factory reset.

You can back up your settings via LuCI → System → Backup / Flash Firmware → Generate Archive, then try connecting to new wifi SSIDs without restoring the backup. If it works, then the problem seems to be a configuration problem. The static IP bindings you have set up are in a /etc/config/dhcp file that should be recoverable.

I do not work for and I do not have formal association with GL.iNet

Hi wcs2228

Thanks for your help!!

I’ve wiped the Beryl device and I’ve got it working again (sort of) with the stable firmware version 3.211. I found that the later beta and snapshot versions fixed the original issue but introduced another problem. On the latest beta and snapshot versions 2.4Ghz clients can ping each other but 5GHz clients are isolated from each other. If I use the stable version of the software all 2.4G, 5G and wired clients can ping each other. 3.11 still does not let me add more than 1 WiFi network though, which the later beta versions did. This was all tested after wiping the unit first to factory defaults and applying the firmware.

I’m appalled that a product sold via Amazon is so unstable. I appreciate these devices are not Cisco, or even DrayTek, prices but even so they should work!

Thanks again for you superb support wcs2228!!

Bert
