Beryl7 - MT3600 - 12v power supply?

Hi, I’ve recently got one of these and am especially impressed with the PD 5-9-12v power acceptance.

What I would like to know is whether it’s safe to use a ‘dumb’ (non-PD) fixed 12v power supply, as opposed to a PD one (that negotiates the voltage)?

Many thanks!

I doubt it will work if the power isn't negotiated via PD, it should not turn on.

There are small adapters with an internal logic to fake PD. I won't use this, except the official fron GL.iNet to plug the Spitz AX/Plus at USB-C (not for your use case).

But I won't grill my own Beryl to test, so maybe someone from the official could give a better answer than me.

That’s an interesting question. I thought both sides started out at 5v, and then negotiated up to 12v. So if you have a non-PD 12v supply, it starts at 12v and the router goes pop. Or, the router never sees the other side negotiating, so it never goes up to 12, and never starts. Either way, I use the official power supply rather than a PD GaN brick to avoid power interruption and a restart if something else is plugged in.

Hi

We checked with the development team and confirmed that a 12V non-PD power adapter can power the MT3600BE normally without issues, provided that the adapter meets the required specifications and delivers stable power.

That said, we still recommend using the original power adapter or a PD power adapter from a reputable manufacturer to avoid any potential issues.

Great, many thanks for the confirmation…
